After Proton's half-hearted attempt, Toyota could rebadge Suzuki Ertiga next 01

Toyota and Suzuki’s partnership will soon hit a high gear, as recent reports are saying that the Indian-market Suzuki Ertiga could be the next model to be rebadged by Toyota.

Yes, the Suzuki Ertiga could be wearing a Toyota emblem soon. Recall that the first-generation Suzuki Ertiga was rebadged as the Proton Ertiga during Proton and Suzuki’s short-lived partnership.

The Toyota-badged Suzuki Ertiga, similar to other current Suzuki and Toyota rebadged models, could gain a revised front grille, as well as unique alloy wheels. The rest of the car, including the powertrain and interior, should remain the same as before.

The Indian-spec Suzuki Ertiga is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine hooked up to Suzuki's Smart Hybrid mild-hybrid system, allowing the Ertiga to return 5.23-litre/100 km under the ARAI test cycle.

Curiously, unlike the upcoming Toyota Belta (rebadged Suzuki Ciaz), Toyota has yet to register a name for its version of the Ertiga.

Recall that Toyota and Suzuki have both been rebadging a number of models, including the Suzuki Baleno (Toyota Glanza), Toyota RAV4 (Suzuki Across), and Toyota Corolla Wagon (Suzuki Swace). Even the Suzuki Ciaz could be rebadged into a Toyota, though it won’t be called the Vios.

A timeline for the Toyota-badged Suzuki Ertiga was not mentioned, but Indian publications predict that the model could be launched in India within the second half of the year.
