The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has just released its latest result on the all-new 2023 Honda CR-V. Just like its predecessor, the sixth-gen CR-V, currently available in Thailand and Indonesia, scored 5 stars.
Under the revised 2021-25 protocolwhich adds a category for motorcycle safety, the all-new CR-V also received an overall score of 87.16 points. It is also the first of its segment to be tested under the current ruling assessment.
As it is under the newer protocol, it cannot be compared with the results of tests that were done before 2020. For instance, the Proton X70scored higher points but it cannot be compared with the results of the all-new CR-V as the rebadged SUV was tested under the older, easier 2017-20 protocol.
Still, it’s a high achievement for the CR-V to consistently receive the full 5 stars in every assessment of the ASEAN NCAP. Even more remarkable is that the all-new CR-V received a perfect score of 8/8 in side impact tests.
The current generation offers 8 airbags, ESC, ABS, and AEB as standard while the unit being assessed is a Thai-assembled model that is currently sold in the Kingdom and Indonesia.
Other advanced safety features like Lande Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) are offered as standard or optional according to the results. Meanwhile, the CR-V doesn’t come with a blind-spot monitor but offers LaneWatch which is described by ASEAN NCAP as a Blind Spot Visualisation (BSV).
The all-new Honda CR-V will be making its Malaysian debut by the end of this year. Just like many models offered by Honda Malaysia, the sixth-gen CR-V will be locally assembled (CKD) in Melaka though the outgoing CR-V is still available albeit with stocks running out quickly to make way for the all-new successor.
