Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has just announced bookings are open for the all-new 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The fourth-generation C-segment SUV is set to make its public debut at the Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) 2023 alongside the Santa Fe facelift this weekend in Setia Alam.
Fully imported (CBU) from South Korea, the all-new Tucson is offered in 3 front-wheel drive variants β 2.0 Lite, 1.6T Plus, and 1.6T Max. Prices for the all-new Tucson will be announced closer to its launch date.
When the fourth-gen Tucson made its global unveiling back in 2020, two versions were introduced, a short wheelbase (SWB) version and a long wheelbase (LWB). Based on the dimensions given by HSDM, the Malaysian-spec Tucson is the LWB version. Even with a longer wheelbase, both versions maintain a 5-seater layout.
The base variant of the Tucson is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre Smartstream MPI engine that makes 156 PS and 192 Nm. The powerplant is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the higher variants are powered by a turbocharged Smartstream 1.6 TGDI engine that develops 180 PS and 265 Nm of torque with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT) that features a push-button gear selector.
All three variants come standard with 7 airbags including a front thorax airbag, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, Blind Spot Collision Warning, and Safe Exit Warning.
The range-topping 1.6T Max comes exclusively with 8-way powered and heated/ventilated driver and front passenger seats, a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument panel, power tailgate, automatic wipers, wireless phone charging, as well as the full Hyundai SmartSense safety suite which includes Smart Cruise Control.
The all-new Tucson will be competing against other C-segment SUVs like the Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V. After a 3-year hiatus, is the Korean SUV one worth waiting for?
