The Vietnamese automotive industry has been growing rapidly in the past few years and it is also one of Mitsubishi’s most vital markets in Southeast Asia. The Xpander is one of the most popular cars in the country and the XFC concept which previewed the HR-V-rivaling Mitsubishi Xforce made its world debut there.
While the production version of the Xforce made its eventual global premiere at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), the B-segment SUV could be launching in Vietnam with a feature that has yet to be introduced in the archipelago.
As reported by AutoPro.vn, the Xforce could be offered in the country with 3 variants which is one more than what Indonesians have been getting since its launch in August. In some of the photos published by the Vietnamese automotive outlet, one of the units features a radar set-up that might hint at it being equipped with ADAS along with a two-tone roof colour option.
Two variants of the Xforce are offered in Indonesia, the Exceed and the Ultimate and neither are offered with ADAS. Mitsubishi Motors has previewed a unit of the Xforce that is equipped with the safety suite at GIIAS 2023 though it might be likely that it would be offered in the archipelago in the future.
According to AutoPro, the Vietnamese-spec Xforce is fully imported (CBU) from Indonesia and the first few batches were brought into the country. Aside from the left-hand drive configuration and the additional ADAS-equipped variant, it seems that the B-SUV is similarly equipped as the Indo-spec.
Powering the Xforce is a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine (105 PS/141 Nm) lifted from the Xpander that is paired with a CVT automatic transmission. Even though it is front-wheel drive (FWD), the Xforce has the highest ground clearance in its class at 222 mm which is similar to the all-new Triton.
Mitsubishi Motors Vietnam has listed the Xforce as one of its future models on its website with pre-bookings being opened across dealerships nationwide. Prices for the SUV have not been revealed yet but the Vietnamese media has speculated that the Xforce could be priced between VND 650-750 million (~RM 126k-145k).
According to Mitsubishi Motors Vietnam’s website, the VN-spec Xforce will be equipped with 4 drive modes (Normal, Wet, Gravel, Mud), digital air-conditioning, 2-tone 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as the Yamaha Premium sound system.
AutoPro has reported that the ADAS features offered include:
Automatic emergency braking (AEB)
Blind-spot warning
Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
Adaptive high beam (AHB)
It is estimated that the Xforce could be launched in Vietnam by December 2023. Meanwhile, the Xforce will be launched in Malaysia as well given that the Xforce is designed for the Southeast Asian market primarily. Whether it will be locally assembled (CKD) like the Xpander or imported from Indonesia will only be revealed much later.
