Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) is set to launch the Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric vehicle (EV) in Malaysia. While the official pricing for the Ioniq 6 in Malaysia is yet to be revealed, we can make estimations by considering the percentage differences between the prices of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 in Korea.
Before that, it is worth highlighting that the Ioniq 6 is positioned side-by-side with the Ioniq 5 in the line-up, rather than above or below. Essentially, one's a sedan (Ioniq 6) and the other is an SUV (Ioniq 5). With that said, let's dig in.
By calculating the percentage differences between the base prices of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 in Korea, we can estimate the potential prices for the Ioniq 6 in Malaysia. Assuming a proportionate increase in prices across all variants, we can use this methodology to derive an estimated price range for the Ioniq 6 in Malaysia.
Taking the base price of the Ioniq 5 as the reference point, we find that the percentage increase for the Ioniq 6 in Korea ranges from approximately 3.89% to 8.68%.
Estimating Hyundai Ioniq 6 prices in Malaysia
Considering the starting price range of the Ioniq 5 in Malaysia, which is RM 207,808 to RM 270,408, we apply the percentage increases observed in Korea to determine the projected prices for the Ioniq 6.
Using the lower end of the Korean percentage increase (3.89%) and the lowest price of the Ioniq 5 in Malaysia (RM 207,808), the estimated starting price for the Ioniq 6 in Malaysia would be around RM 215,884.
Utilising the higher end of the Korean percentage increase (8.68%) and the highest price of the Ioniq 5 in Malaysia (RM 270,408), the projected price for the Ioniq 6 would be approximately RM 294,151. Hence, our estimated prices for the Hyundai Ioniq 6 start from RM 215k to 295k.
Note, however, that these figures are speculative and subject to change. Official pricing announcements from HSDM will provide accurate information regarding the Hyundai Ioniq 6's pricing and available variant(s).
Just a quick refresher, the entry-level Hyundai Ioniq 6 in Korea comes with a 53 kWh battery, powered by a single rear-mounted motor delivering 151 PS and 350 Nm of torque.
The long-range versions of the Ioniq 6 feature a 77.4 kWh battery, with an option of either a single rear-mounted motor generating 228 PS and 350 Nm of torque or dual motors powering both axles, providing an output of 325 PS and 605 Nm of torque.
Based on the WLTP cycle, the long-range rear-wheel-drive variant of the Ioniq 6 boasts an estimated range of approximately 610 km.
The Ioniq 6 is one of the four new models teased by Hyundai Malaysia on their Facebook page. Alongside the EV, the teaser video also showcased the Creta, Santa Fe, and Palisade.
The quest for automotive knowledge began as soon as the earliest memories. Various sources information, even questionable ones, have been explored including video games, television, magazines, or even internet forums. Still stuck in that rabbit hole.
