Since 2020, the Royal Malaysia Police Force (PDRM) has been using the last-generation Honda Civic FC for patrolling duties. The Malaysian 5-0 uses the base Civic S which is powered by a naturally aspirated (NA) 1.8-litre i-VTEC (145 PS/175 Nm) but as seen in this photo, it looks like the current generation FE will be added to its arsenal.
Based on the set of images shared by The Ajerul on their Facebook page, the units of Civics seen on the trailer near Simpang Ampat appeared to be the base variant judging by the 16-inch wheels. It is also worth noting that since the FE is only available with one engine option, these patrol cars would be turbocharged.

Powering the Civic FE is a 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo petrol unit that produces 182 PS and 240 Nm which will be a significant power boost for the boys in blue. Though the current Civic is not the first turbocharged patrol car used by PDRM, it would be the first used for general patrols.
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X was used by PDRM mainly for highway patrols or emergencies like the transport of COVID-19 vaccines. Meanwhile, the fleet of Proton Preves was powered by an NA CamPro unit rather than the turbocharged mill.
The Civic FE will likely replace some of the ageing Proton police cars like the Preve and Inspira. Besides the Civic FE, PDRM is also adding the Honda City to its fleet of patrol cars on top of the Proton X70 and Perodua Myvi.
With the Proton S70 launched as P1’s latest sedan and spiritual successor to the Preve, might we see the Malaysian police force making a return to Proton sedans for their patrolling duties?
