While the Proton X50 is still enjoying the limelight since its launch in October 2020, the Perodua D55L is on its way to capture the hearts of Malaysians. Our friends at funtasticko have information that the Perodua D55L will begin production in Rawang in February 2021.

Although the final name of the Perodua D55L is yet to be confirmed, photo chopper Theophilus Chin has blessed us again with a rendering of a GR version of the Perodua D55L. (Daihatsu Rocky/Toyota Raize).

Like the Perodua GR Axia, the virtual enhancements air mainly cosmetic, with only a slight increase in tyre size.

Powertrain details of the actual Perodua D55L have yet to be confirmed but the Rocky/Raize donor cars are powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged 1KR-VET engine mated to a CVT-type automatic transmission.

The engine is basically a turbocharged version of the Axia/Bezza’s 1KR-VE engine. It makes 98 PS at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm from 2,400 rpm to 4,000 rpm.

The Perodua D55L is smaller than the Proton X50 and slightly larger than the Perodua Myvi. It is expected to launch in March 2021.
