Three seemingly successful SUVs later, the next Geely product to be given the Proton 'Thundercat' roundel seems to be the Geely Emgrand. There are rumours that the sedan might be called the Proton S70 and could be introduced by the end of 2023.

Camouflaged test mules have already been spotted on our roads since 2022 so Malaysians are probably accustomed to what is possibly Proton’s return to the C-segment sedan market (with B-segment price) since the Proton Preve was discontinued in 2018.

This latest spot, uploaded on TikTok shows a heavily disguised Proton S70 refuelling at a petrol station. The car has garnered plenty of attention from the petrol station workers but besides a more obvious shot of the front grille which resembles the Proton X90’s design, there’s something else noticeably different compared to previous spyshots.

For one, this right-hand drive (RHD) model does not come with a sunroof. Perhaps it’s a clue that there would be more than one variant of the S70 and this particular unit is the lower variant.

Details on the S70 are still scarce and that includes the name of the model. The name has been trademarked by Proton along with a bunch of other nomenclatures but who knows if Proton decides to give the Emgrand rebadge a proper name instead.

As for powerplant, that is also still up in the air though many have touted that the S70 could receive the same 1.5-litre TGDi 3-pot as the X50 and X70. Perhaps it could even be powered by the mild-hybrid unit as seen in the X90 but still, Malaysians would have to wait just a little bit longer before the camouflage is finally undressed.
