Targeted fuel subsidy to start in January 2020, only for BSH recipients

Starting January 2020, the government will implement the Targeted Fuel Subsidy Scheme, which will see recipients of the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) receiving cash aid once every four months.

According to Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the subsidy rate is RM 30 per month for cars and RM 12 per month for motorcycles. The first payment is scheduled for April 2020.

He also pointed out that BSH recipients who owns up to 2 cars and 2 motorcycles registered with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) under their names are eligible for the fuel subsidy scheme.

Furthermore, he added that the subsidy will be handed out to BSH recipients who owns cars with an engine capacity of 1,600 cc and below, as well as cars that are 1,600 cc and above which are more than 10 years old.

As for motorcycles, those with an engine capacity of 150 cc and below are qualified, which also includes motorcycles that are more than 150 cc which are older than 7 years old.

The Targeted Fuel Subsidy Scheme is aimed at reducing the cost of living for low income households, which includes BSH recipients with a total household income of less than RM 4,000 a month.

The government has also identified the types of vehicles that qualify for the fuel subsidy.
