The Panamera is a great vehicle. Get behind the wheel and you will forget about that giant car behind you! The downside? It is not a 911. In my mind it is for those who do not want 2 cars (a 911 and a luxury sedan), and go for one car that combines those 2 cars. So, nothing at all wrong with a Panamera, unless you have space for and can afford both of the (superior at their jobs) cars it replaces.
This sort of questions are better answered in dedicated forums such as Rennlist. There’s a wealth of knowledge there, easily accessible. Long story short, Panameras are pretty reliable cars but you will need to keep up with the proper maintenance. It also depends on which particular model you want. maybe you want to update your question with it. Here’s the link to the Rennlist Panamera forum: Panamera - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums
Because marketers are really good at their jobs when it comes to exploiting human insecurities and impulses. If you can convince someone they have a problem, they will buy the solution. For example, marketers have convinced generations of women that their natural appearance is “unsightly” in order to sell trillions of dollars worth of makeup and hair removal products. In fact, they’ve done such a good job of making women think these things are a “need” that they successfully get away with charging them more for “women’s” versions of the same items they sell to men. If that pisses you off as a woman, you’re right to feel that way — but wouldn’t a better question be why you feel the need to buy either one in the first place? Have you ever really thought about it? This isn’t exclusive to women, Marketers play on men’s insecurities too, just in different ways. Men will spend $3,500 on a grill just to be able to tell their neighbors they spent $3,500 on a grill. Men will also spend $10,000 on a freaking watch, for the same reason. And when they can’t afford a $10k watch, some of them will spend $500 on a fake version of it, just so other men ,think ,they have a $10k watch. Entire generations of men and women have been taught their “stuff” is a status symbol. You should drive a certain type of car. You should spend two months salary on jewelry, have the latest iPhone, bottled water, $4-per-cup coffee, closets full of overpriced shoes, etc. Why? Because marketers have been teaching you to want it for so long that “wanting it” is now what’s ,normal,. ,Not, wanting it means you’re not normal or are somehow inferior. You don’t look pretty enough without razors and makeup. You don’t look successful enough without the latest car or gadgets. You’re less of a man if you don’t buy your woman a rock to wear that costs half as much as your car. You’re antisocial if you aren’t hanging out with yuppies drinking overpriced coffee, and you’re a cheapskate if you drink tap water and don’t have trendy running clothes and shoes. Isn’t it odd how the most functional products are sold for reasonable prices while products that are less functional but more visually appealing sell for more? Why are people paying $150k for a fully optioned Porsche Panamera, while the Kia Stinger GT which outperformed it on every benchmark is only $41k? Marketing. Why is a truck that’s considered “stylish” but can barely pull its own weight more expensive than a truck with all of the same options and can tow 30,000 lbs? Marketing. Why do we pay for bigger boobs, tummy tucks, liposuction, nose jobs, and hair restoration? Marketing. Marketers win when you feel bad about yourself. Marketers win when you think you have a problem that needs solving. And it’s not like I don’t know what I’m talking about here, our entire business is based on selling unnecessary impulse items that ,nobody, needs, and all it takes is a decent ad for millions of people to buy them anyway. The human desire for instant gratification and to feel good about themselves are powerful emotions, and it’s easy for marketers to capitalize on that. At some point, if you want to get ahead in life, you don’t just have to ask yourself whether or not you need a particular thing — you should also be asking yourself what’s driving you toward wanting it in the first place.
Going anonymous for obvious reasons! This is going to be a tad different from the answers given here. I come from a relatively wealthy family, the foundation of which goes back to 1920s. We live in a tony neighborhood in south Bombay and the total net worth of my family would be approx 2200 crores. Most of this wealth is in the form of privately owned real estate and stocks passed on from the generation of my great grandfather. We still run our business and it makes around 15 to 25 crores a year for us depending on the economy and market. Now coming to the question- how does it feel to make 3 to 4 lakhs a month. Well, that is the kind of amount I get a month for my expenses from my family as I'm still 21 and not actively working. Beyond a point, wealth fails to excite you. With great wealth, come great problems. Many a times, I don't feel the motivation to work or study or do anything, just because I have everything that I wish at my disposal. I miss the purpose of my life. My parents give me all that I want without questioning me - except TIME. I don't remember the last time we went to a movie together or may be a leisurely dinner. Was that when I was 12? Or 13? I have many friends(or so to say) and I'm very popular with girls as well. But all of that seems fake and I tend to keep a distance from them. I've become so averse to making friends that even if someone genuinely tries to befriend me and is a good person, I act like a snob to make him/her dislike me. That's because I've seen enough gold diggers in my life to never trust anyone. When I was a teenager, almost all of them who I trusted as friends tried to get some kind of benefit from me. It's an unwritten rule for them- because I'm rich, I must pay for the parties, dinners, their shopping, holidays, etc etc. I do have 3 close and real friends too and Im thankful for it. I may come around as melancholic person to people, who despite the riches is always sad and complaining. Well, that's also not the case. I equally enjoy my life. I don't want to focus on just one part of wealth- good or bad. I want people to know that wealth is as much a bane as it is a boon. Ofcourse I don't have to think about the problems like the middle class and don't have to think twice before surprising my gf with a 5 carat diamond or buying myself a Porsche Panamera when I saw it in the showroom on my way home and had no plans whatsoever to have a new car (we already had 9 cars then). But we have our own problems and they are equally disturbing as a middle class having to think about his job or next hike or retirement. I'm trying to work on my life and get pessimism out of myself. Im about to start my studies in London in one of the oldest and most reputed business schools in the world. I was fortunate enough to spend my childhood with my great grandfather and he has had a great influence on me. He always taught me how important it is to have goals and dreams in life. He taught me never to let money or success go to your head. He also taught me that one must keep working no matter how wealthy or successful he becomes. According to him, a businessman is a person on who's shoulders lies the responsibility of taking the country forward. Businesses are the engines of a country's economic prosperity. And only a businessman can have the good fortune of giving livelihood to thousands of families. He has donated at least 50 crores of our family wealth in 60s-70s which otherwise, would have added at least 2000 crore in our net-worth today. I wish I can be like him. His golden words of wisdom- You will not live forever. The value you create for the society, MUST. PS- Please excuse me for poor framing of my answer as I'm not quite good at it.
In my opinion there are three core competences, where VW is remarkable: platform strategy: VW runs 13 brands, from Ducati to Bentley. But they are masters in using the same components for entirely different cars. So the VW SUV Touareg, the Porsche Panamera and the Bentley Continental GT share one platform. VW Golf, Audi TT and Skoda Octavia share another platform. TDI Diesel engine: VW is pioneer in making direct injection Diesel engines. These engines are extremely fuel efficient. DSG dual clutch gearbox: An automatic gearbox which is as fuel efficient as a manual transmission. Main problem for VW: TDI engines and DSG transmissions are obsolete in the electric age.
All previous answers are very USA based. The US likes big cars, so station wagons there were big and now they have big SUVs. In Europe and Asia that's very different. You can get a Hyundai I30 wagon for example. And station wagons are indeed very practical, and just as fuel efficient and pretty much the same length as their sedan counterpart. We have an Audi A4 station wagon, and it's brilliant. It has the same engine as the sedan, is I think 10mm longer only, but has enough space in the back so I can put my two dogs in there which would otherwise have to go on the back seats. The problem why they are now being abandoned slowly is that people have discovered SUVs and the fact that those are higher. And to be honest most SUVs are just station wagons that are a bit higher. People like being high, you can see more, and feels different, superior somehow. Like I said we have an A4 station wagon. Now take a Q5 and that's basically the same car on stilts. Or take the Subaru Outback. That used to be a station wagon, now they just made it higher and call it SUV. Or even smaller, take the Mazda 3, a normal hatchback, make it higher, call it CX-3 and it becomes a compact SUV. That's all there is to it. So in short, an SUV is just a station wagon that's a bit higher. That's all. At least for European and Asian cars. No one in Europe or Asia would drive a Chevy Suburban or so. Those are SUVs on steroids and way too big. Edit: To show that the station wagin isn't dead, this is a brand new development of a wagon. This company never made wagons before, until last year they produced the first one. Porsche Panamera Turismo Sport
Figure out the market first. You can’t just go out buying cars. Figure out if these cars depreciate, search up used versions or recent versions. Google forums about these cars, i.e “bmw 7 problems forums”. Also, schedule a test drive with both & see which one you enjoy more. Also look at this as an investment (unless you have money to blow) & even then you should still wanna choose a good car. Honestly, porches seem to keep their value longer than bmw’s. I did a quick search & there are 2015 porsche panameras going for $60k, while some 2015 bmw m7’s are going for around 45k (on truecar.com).
I like cars. A lot. So I could never stop with buying only one. However, if we are talking a “money no-object” scenario, there are ,four cars I'd consider (per class,/,Category), and one of those will definitely do. I am not sure if this questions can be considered as “trolling” but I will answer it anyways. My job is to test cars for magazines and review them. I’ve worked for several German Magazines and also for a German Car TV shows, and have driven hundreds of cars (mostly high performance and luxury cars) and actively test them down to their bolts (ok maybe not that far ;). Personally, I’ve owned a BMW M5, M3s, 335i, Audis and a Mercedes’. I absolutely disagree with the original commentator, claiming that the Model S drives badly. It’s actually quite surprising how well it drives for its very high weight. I am not sure if the original commentator ever drove other cars that weigh over 2 tons, but I know that there aren’t any that have a better/lower center of gravity, which the Tesla gets by its low mounted battery packs. That helps tremendously to reduce body roll and increases the cornering performance of the Tesla Model S. And pulling 0.9 G on the skidpad is very good comparing it to a Porsche Panamera at 0.94G and and S Class pulling 0.91 G. You also can not forget that the Tesla Model S comes with much thinner, less grippy tires for better roll performance. I’ve actually driven one with wider and stickier Continental tires and I am sure that these can increase the cornering performance significantly. So the claim that the car understeers is a bit bolt. I mean even a Porsche GT3 understeers at a certain point. The steering is a bit numb. Correct. But please look at other luxury cars, and tell me how they steer. Try an S-Class or Audi A8. They all have electrical steering systems, which don’t have the feedback an hydraulic operated rack used to give you. Nevertheless, for a car that is supposed to be a cruiser, and not something you drift around turns, the steering feel is absolutely good enough. It is still very direct and responsive, and the steering wheel itself has a great feel to it and you can hold it properly at 9 and 3 without any problems. I really urge the commentator to not ask questions in this sort of way. It really can make you look like a know it all and it can be pretty embarrassing at the end of the day.
Well, not coming from my admiration for Mercedes, the Porsche has a very big problem for me at least, it is just so very very ugly ! Technically they are really amazing, performance can be stunning but the design department really messed up (well, some people seem to like it anyway) especially when you compare the rivals like the Maserati Quattroporte and Aston Martin Rapide. I would go by (take the looks out of the equation), if you want a sports car then go for the Porsche, but if you want super comfortable luxury car (which is not crammed in the back) the S-class is a much better choice and it can also be sporty enough, at least it will not be boring on some twisty roads a maniac when you want it to be. In my opinion i would go for the S-class.
