Tata Cars may be the safest cars available (I am not sure, may be they are the safest), they are priced aggressively and still people are not buying TATA Cars. I have read some answers to this question, and still no one mentioned the real reason behind TATA cars still not getting its due share in the Indian market. I own a TATA car, I bought TATA Zest immediately after it was launched. Being Indians we are always obsessed with Imported Goods. Most of us believe that if anything is imported, it will be the best. However, being a Nationalist, i wanted to buy a car which was made by an Indian company and with a good build quality. The cars made by TATA have come a long way, the build quality has improved a lot, the plastics used are much better, overall teh cars are much better when compared in the same range with other companies. Mostly they are value for the money spent. So, I bought Zest and the car was really good. Overall, I was very Happy with my decision of buying a TATA Car. However, things started changing as soon as the car went for Service. Tata has improved in each area, but the service of the cars provided by their dealers is Pathetic. They have the dealer network which used to work with Buses, Trucks or Autorickshaws - And these dealers have become a Liability to the company. These dealers are still living in the old days, where in they can take the customer for a Ride, take 4–5 days for a simple service, they have no stock for spare parts (Even the Brake Pads). I own a TATA ZEST and a TOYOTA Innova and the Toyota car is an year older than the Tata car I own. These 2 cars belong to a different category altogether, and even price-wise they are totally in a different segment. But can you Believe the ownership cost of TATA zest is much higher than Toyota Innova. I spend on an average INR 20000.00 on Innova for regular service and repairs, and I have spent an average of INR 30000.00 an year on TATA ZEST. How is it possible? I checked with some of my friends, acquaintances - This ia not an Isolated case. The Dealer network of TATA Cars offer a pathetic service and the charges are higher than TOYOTA. The Cars offered by TATA are much better in every sense when compared with the competition, but I don't understand, Why TATA cannot improve their service quality? Is it so Hard to improve the service quality? If an Foreign company Toyota can offer good service, Why cant TATA? So, the reason TATA Cars dont sell are: Pathetic After Sales service. Resale Value of the cars is pathetic again, as the cars are not well maintained due to the pathetic service. These are the only 2 reasons, and its not about the mentality of Indians with its obsession with Maruti or Imported Brands.
Have you ever read a comparison from Toyota comparing Innova with a Harrier Or a Hexa or Ertiga or Xylo? No because TOYOTA does not compare its Innova with any other car. One reason that comes to mind for a person willing to buy Harrier over Innova is to save Money. Or that person has not experienced an Innova. I have an Innova TS 2.8 AT and have driven it everywhere, plains, mountains, hills, traffic, Highway etc. i have travelled in all seats of the Innova. Driver, shotgun, captain seats (both) rear seat (I’m 5’11” 90+ kg ) the rear seat has lesser space than the front ones but even after 100 Kms in the rear had no complaints. It’s last seat is more comfortable than a FORTUNER!!! Coming back to Harrier, it is claimed to be designed on the Land Rover platform. Overall it looks pretty cool. Uses the engine from Fiat a 2 L MJD which is a great engine for the Harrier. I am sure it shall find some good number of customers as well. However it may not be able to take away a customer from Toyota and definitely may not be able to convert an Innova customer.
Planned to purchase a Toyota Innova Crysta. Visited a couple of dealerships for the best deal. Finalized on one dealership. The quotation apart from ex-showroom price and road tax included Extended warranty Toyota Protect Insurance Accessories and some value add ons Registration and handling charges All these increased my budget by over 2 lakh rs. I decided to do away with everything including insurance (as I wanted to take my personal banker) The dealership accepted everything except the insurance to be taken from outside. They did not say NO for the vehicle to be sold to me but kept on postponing the sale (they did not even take the booking amount). I understood something was fishy. Did some research. The dealership had quoted 72000rs as insurance premium (zero dep) for 18 lakh My banker quoted 37000 rs as insurance premium (zero dep policy) for 16 lakh (they do not cover the road tax part) The dealership was quoting almost double. If not paid, vehicle will not be sold to you. I mailed the Toyota manufacturer stating the case and asking them if it is required for customers to buy the policy compulsorily from their dealership itself. Received a prompt reply from the manufacturer by the evening - They made it clear that except the vehicle price, the dealership cannot force you to pay amount. Also, by EOD, I received the call from the same dealership requesting me to come, pay the vehicle price (incl road tax) and take it. They accepted my demand to purchase insurance elsewhere. Saved almost 35k only on insurance. Dealership try to sell additional stuff especially insurance (over inflated) stating that it is compulsory. Well, it is not compulsory. If they refuse, mail the manufacturer and problem will be solved. EDIT - Some people have asked if I had compared the extra benefits provided. Yes did that - No many addons extra to be precise. IDV for my policy covers the entire ex-showroom price. IDV by the dealership covers the road tax too (about 2 lakhs) However, the price of 72k is not justified for some value adds when compared to 35k that I had paid. To be honest it would be improper to blame the dealerships completely. They spend huge amounts on infra and manpower. So, they probably sell all these with car We all expect the dealership to luxurious, elegant, great infra, located at expensive places in the city and also treat us like royalty, each of us attended by a sales executive who provides us with undivided attention e.t.c. Our perception - if these are not provided, we tend to question the capacity of the company to service us. we must cut some slack to dealerships too.
The Nissan Evalia, which has been discontinued in India, never sold well. It was a quite roomy car, priced in the 9–13 lakh Rupees range (on road), had decent fuel economy, ran on Diesel (we Indians love Diesels as they use the cheaper fuel) and was equipped quite well. But it was not all very good. There were a few niggles in the design too. Nissan Evalia The styling, which is that of a van, and therefore not very appealing for some people, put off a lot of potential customers who'd use it for personal use. As a result, even though in very small numbers (considering sales of other comparatively priced 7+ seaters) only taxi operators and fleet buyers even considered the car. Nissan supposedly did not do their best to sell this vehicle. They apparently outsourced the sales and customer service to some other company that was not as good in delivering vehicles as collecting the bookings and orders. This was the case till 2014, after which Nissan India took responsibility for their sales and customer care services. It is also evident that Nissan was more interested in the sales of the then upcoming Terrano which is the rebadged version of the Renault Duster, which itself was a rebadged version of the Dacia Duster. Nissan had a joint venture with Ashok Leyland whereby Ashok Leyland sold a significantly cheaper version of the Evalia badged as the Ashok Leyland Stile to the taxi market, thus eating into the already thin market share the Evalia had. Ashok Leyland Stile. Cars in India are seen as a status symbol. A significant number of the car buying class in India would not want to buy a car that does not look better than it's rivals in the same price range. The Evalia had tough competition in the market and when it came to looks, it simply lost the battle to Mahindra and Toyota both of which offered superior products namely the Xylo and the Innova (okay, not the top variants). Mahindra Xylo 2012 Toyota Innova 2012. This is why I think the Evalia was a flop.
On paper, the MG Hector Plus really looks like a product that is absolute value for money. A part of the reason comes from the fact that it under cuts its main rival, the Toyota Innova Crysta by a fair margin in terms of price. Add to that a decent list of features and it becomes a really good product for the price. However, it is not quite clear whether the MG is reliable enough for the long term. There have been a couple of instances in the past year where the Hector had broken down much to the dismay of its customers. Other than that, there is also the fact that MG as a brand have not quite established themselves in the market despite the so-called success of the Hector. The brand majorly works on a retail basis which means you may not expect your vehicle to be delivered as soon as you book it. However, this approach works in only selected cities where there is little to no stock of the car. The Hector has its positives like the smooth flowing diesel engine sourced from Fiat and many clever features, which are appreciated by a majority of customers. One of the major negatives noticed on the Hector Plus is the third row of seats, which really feel cramped. These could turn out to be difficult for carrying large families and while MG have a decent service backing, they don't quite fully deliver on what pepole crave in an MPV, that is space. Yes you can consider the Hector Plus keeping the previous point aside if you want an affordable and feature-packed MPV for now. However, if you would want to extend your budget for the same, the Toyota Innova Crysta is pretty much the de facto choice for you. It has pretty much evening expected from an MPV keeping aside its high cost. It has a better third row of seats, a really good service network and of course comes with the tried and tested reliability quotient of Toyota. It has a refined set of engines in its disposal and while it falls short on equipment, it does deliver on what matters, albeit at a price. Yes while it is starting to feel dated now and is being kept fresh by facelifts here and there, it still remains the indisputable king of the segment for more than 15 years now. Many have tried and failed, but the Innova has just got stronger with time and with good measure. Hence, I recommend you the Innova Crysta if you have to choose between the two without bringing budget into the equation. That doesn't mean that I am denying the suggestion of the Hector Plus, which looks a good prospect. But in the end, there is only one clear winner and that for me comes in the form of the Innova Crysta in this comparison test. Picture Credits: Carwale and Hindustan Times. Thank you.
Incident Location: New Delhi (April 2015) I hired a Toyota Innova - UberBlack Category. Without surge prices : Rs 120 Base fare + Rs 12 per kms The driver was very happy, friendly and morally positive. He was very much lean towards customer service, he had magazines and current newspapers on-board, and a small cooler store, it had mineral water, lassi, coffee, soft drinks, and additionally there were mouth fresheners, chips and some toffees, and all this was available for the MRP. (,Driver explained, so they don't have to pull sideways for these stuff, and it is the extra care for clients.,) Me,: So how much money are you making from Uber ? Driver,: I am very content with the services and remuneration, I make Rs 52000 max per week. As I take my work seriously, I work from morning 5:00AM to 10:00PM night, and the saturdays and sundays are mostly happening ones that covers a week. Me,: Its awesome, so what is the mode of communication, payment, and other relevant procedure to enroll. Driver,: The process is easy n simple, they are now tight with rules and documents, and they pay me every week by wire transfer. The weekly earning is generated as report with amount and kms details and paid out, all things come through mail and my son helps me to sort out, and count and calculate. Me,: Do you make Rs 50000-52000 every week ? Driver: ,No that depends, last week, I was out to meet my family in Punjab for 3 days, worked for 4 days, and I made Rs 29000. (He also showed me transaction message of Rs 52000 from his bank, and tax was not deducted at source). The payment pattern is simple, like you take a ride, and the bill generated is Rs 560, he will be credited Rs 200 extra , means he will get Rs 760 in account and rs 200 is bonus and gratuity per ride.,( ,Yes, this is a temporary phenomena as they are boosting business in India.) Me,: So you are earning Rs 180000-200000 per month by this car. Driver,: This is an SUV, and according to traffic in Delhi, I spend around Rs 40000-50000 on fuel, and maintenance is about 10000-15000. So i am making Rs 1.2 lakhs nowadays. Me: Cool it is (,*thinking in mind, god why am I doing MBA,) After this awesome response, I decided to add one more trip details. INCIDENT 2: New delhi (May 2015) Hired,: UberX - Suzuki Swift Dezire Driver was frank and friendly, shared much details.,Total Earnings,: 28000-34000 per week. Ideology,: He drives from evening through night, doing air ports pick up and railway stations drop. Earnings,: Rs 120000 average, after 30k-35k fuel and 10k maintenance, take out money = Rs 75000-80000 __________________________________________________ EDIT 3: For those who want to become Uber drivers after the answer: You may chose it, but you know "door ke dhol suhane lagte hai". He is a very hard working guy, he have problem walking sometimes , because he has to sit all the day. And you never know what client you will get, they can be drunk, can vomit, can shout, do nasty things or sexual activities which can attract police challan, they handle all that shit, sometimes they abuse to drivers too. Think before making your career. A friendly advice How does Uber charge us,: (According to New Delhi , India - MARCH 2015) There are 3 categories, UberBlack (Rs 120 base + Rs 12 per km), UberX (Rs 50 + Rs 9 per kms) and UberGO (Rs 25 + Rs 7 per kms), so as i have written about UberBlack , they can earn that much in a place like delhi easily. One trip of 32kms costs around 600 and 2 hours. Think about it, Rs 5000-6000 per day is not a big deal. And How Uber charges you is a thing to consider, they charge for kms and money separately. If you go 10 kms in 10 minutes Your charge for UberX: Base fare (50) + Rs 1 per minute * 10 (10) + 10kms * 9 (90) = Rs150 EDIT 4: How Uber earns money ? Answer: ,They are not earning now. It is in advertisement and investment model right now, they are not earning, but soon they will start cutting commission, after they reach a Break Even Point with drivers and customers Thanks ,Shankar Subramanian, for the edits, i needed them. Recently a follow up question was posted in quora for this answer, and Mr. ,Balaji Viswanathan (பாலாஜி விஸ்வநாதன்), elaborated it very well. The people asking and having same mindset must read: ,If a cab driver makes more money than an IT professional, why should I study?
Toyota Innova , any day will definitely be much more comfortable if you are comparing it to Ertiga ( as per your question). Basically there's no competition as such. I myself have experienced both the cars for long trips. You won't even find Ertiga easily in any travel agencies . Everywhere , first preference is Toyota innova in terms of comfort, luggage space etc. So as per customers choice , agents have also switched to Innova.

Its about my last month’s Pune-Shirdi trip. So ,We were 6 family members and wanted to visit Shirdi and we thought of book SUV cab for this one day return trip (I stay in Kothrud, Pune ) We always prefer Toyota Innova for comfortable journey so I called my regular local cab operator of Pune and inquired about rates & availability & he quoted us Rs 6000 /- ,all inclusive, for a round trip to Shirdi from Pune in AC Toyota Innova,. (Image for reference from Google.) Since I was regular customer of them I was sure about their services but still don’t know what came in my mind & I thought of checking rates on OLA may be because I recently came across to their advertisements on YouTube for their outstation ride. So in ,OLA, App interface I saw ,2, options in Outstation cab section first was ,One way, and 2nd was ,Round trip, , so out of curiosity I checked both . App showed me ,Rs 8147/-, for a round trip for Pune to Shirdi with the same car ,Toyota Innova. Let’s not discuss rate part here . Interestingly the cost they calculated was for the ,Distance of 360km, in this round trip whereas actual distance from my house is around ,400 km, to Shirdi for a round trip . So further I checked for a ,one way trip, option and this time App showed me ,perfect, ,distance, which, ,was, 200 km ,and costing was ,Rs 6694/- So I got them here. If the OLA, ,App is showing ,200 km for one way trip, from Pune to Shirdi why the hell same app is showing ,360km, for a round trip for same destinations ? So trick is , ,They show us lower ,(?), quote Just to grab the booking by considering lesser distance . So if we take my case First they would have shown ,one, quote to grab the booking and later at the end of trip they would have charged me something else like may be around Rs 1000 extra ( ,Rs 9100/- Apx, )under the name of extra KMs. ( Rs 20X40km plus taxes ) Ultimately at the end customers will do what ? They will simply check per KM rate , they will check distance and pay the bill right ? No scope of argument. clever !! Isn’t it ? (Image source - Screenshots from my own phone) They know, that most of the people book cab for ,round trip, ,only ,hence this trick to fool people. No doubt I went to Shirdi in a Ac Toyota Innova and my old cab operator charged us 6000/- flat (Saved 3100/- too) for a 1 day return round trip and ,yet, it was awesome one. Edit 1- Another similar experience shared by ,Ravi Shankar, - Let me add few more scams of OLA. I booked OLA outstation from Point A to B . Total distance between A to B is 71 KM. Cost was 1900 and something when I booked. When I reached at B asked for the total. We had paid 1600 for fuel. Total bill came 3300. I did only thing that took screenshot while booking. As A and B both were famous Railway station so no confusion of extra Km and all. Then driver started arguing. I called up OLA care. He said to pay 2200 now they will refund in my account which they never did. And by their scam I had to waste my hours. Beware ! Thanks for reading
You might know of the Indian tendency to name an entire product segment with the name of a particular trusted product from that segment: Xerox, for any and all copiers Maggi, for any and all noodles LIC, for any and all life insurance policies Similarly, you have an entire segment among taxi fleet operators wherein customers ask for an Innova! They won't ask similarly for a Hyundai Xcent cab or a Tata Bolt cab. The Innova is in a class of its own, in the mind of the customer. The Innova was introduced at the expense of the older Toyota Qualis. Actually, the Qualis sold well but was unfit for upgraded emission norms, so it made way for the Innova. The Qualis still sells at 4 lakhs INR in the used market as many as 1.5 decades after it was stopped! The Qualis created the whole bulletproof reliable image for Toyota, when they were still new in the market. Meanwhile, Toyota still makes spare parts available for the Qualis; manufacturers usually tend to stop supporting outphased products after 10 years. But it's not so with Toyota. Tata on the other hand have yet to prove themselves on the after sales network and their overall quality of workmanship. The Hexa is superior to the Crysta in many ways. But spare a thought to the hapless Tata Safari owners who see their 10 year old cars depreciate to 2.5 lakhs INR while similar 10 year old Innovas still sell at thrice that price!
No, Toyota Innova isn't available in Speaker Brand.
The closest rival to the Toyota Innova is:
Nissan Serena S-Hybrid - RM 137,524
No, Toyota Innova doesn't have Seat Features(Passenger).
