toyota innova length Q&A Review

Does Toyota Innova last for 5 lakh kilometers?

One thing I've learnt from experience and from Mr Clarkson is that you cannot kill a Toyota! If India had roads like the US or UK we could easily run most cars past the 1L km mark. 5L then wouldn't be a big deal.. In India it's common for cars that have done more than 50k KM's to start deteriorating. Badly. This is purely down to poor maintenance by both owner and workshop's as well as pathetic roads. Do u have any idea how much damage a car takes just by travelling the length of Bannerghatta road ?! Dicey speed breakers, potholes all screw up suspension components which drastically reduces driveability. Clutches konk off in bumper to bumper traffic. If u take care of ur car like a baby, especially a Toyota, she'll never give up on u.

Having saved up to buy a Toyota Innova Crysta, I recently saw the ad for Kia Carnival. Should I change my plans?

Toyota Innova is considered as king in MPV segment. It is known for its reliability. We can easily clock 3,00,000 kilometres in odometer without any major issues. But where as in kia ground clearance and its long length is going to be an issue. Also kia or South Korean cars are not as reliable as japanese. Innova is suitable for almost all categories of lifestyles ex: commercial usage, nuclear families, joint families, politics and police. Where as carnival will be permitted to only certain categories like premium commercial vehicle and as a vacation car. Using it for a day to day purposes is not an easy job. I think you can go ahead with your plan. Also Innova has an upper hand in resale value.

Why do people buy Kia Seltos like crazy?

Buying Kia Seltos is not crazy. In a question a person asked about Kia Carnival vs Toyota Innova Crysta, and I advised him to go for Toyota Innova. Now coming to your question, you can buy Kia Seltos, a good, spacious compact SUV, with 4.3 meter length, so you're getting 400+ liter boot space and spacious leg space if you're 6 feet or above in height. You might ask me why I am not supporting XUV300, Brezza or Hyundai Venue or Ford Ecosport, or even our Tata Nexon, my answer is that, while buying a spacious car, you better get above 4 meter car with space, since you are spending above Rs 10 lakh. Below 10 lakh, you can buy a sub 4 meter. NB. I am not defaming other companies.

Have you ever walked into a hotel/motel room and said "absolutely not. I can't stay here". Why?

When I came through the arrivals door of Mumbai Airport shortly before midnight, my driver from the InContinental Hotel was waiting for me with a neatly printed name sign; I noticed it immediately, because he had it upside down. With a wave and a smile of acknowledgement, I joined him, and we strode off toward the hotel’s airport service car. Along the way, I was accosted by the usual, eager service personnel, conspiratorially offering cheaper taxis and cheaper hotels. I declined, knowing my choice of hotel was already rock bottom budget when I had booked it online. I had read the 72 devastating online feedbacks the hotel had amassed, and gave myself to no illusions as to the state things would be in. Also, I figured these feedbacks were usually written by whiners anyway. My hotel would be just fine. As the comfortable Toyota Innova with its leather upholstered captain chairs approached the InContinental, my hunch seemed confirmed. The place looked fabulous with its marble front, spotlight illumination, and parade of late model Mercedes Benz parked out front. And there was a great looking restaurant right next to it, as well. Upon check-in, a hotel boy led me to my room. The lift was “undergoing service”, as a neatly printed sign informed us, so we took the stairs. Immediately, we entered a wormhole to another world. “Is this… still the hotel?” I asked, but the hotel boy spoke no English. The stairwell looked as if a construction site from the late 1950s had been first painted by a madman, then set on fire, and afterwards been used as a mattress dump. Cables were hanging everywhere, window panes were missing, and the layer of dust on everything seemed impossibly thick. This place hadn’t been cleaned, ever. We arrived in a corridor. Strong flashbacks to my visit of Alcatraz flared up. The smell of old tobacco smoke and mouldy vinyl flooring hung in the stagnant air. The temperature was easily 35 degrees Celsius. The boy unlocked a room; I noticed he had many keys with him; he was obviously planning to show me several rooms. After some extensive fumbling with a lock that seemed so worn out, it was even hard to locate, he swung open the door. The room behind it was so totally beyond anything I could even recognize as a hotel room that he quickly shut the door again when he saw my facial expression. To this day, I don’t remember clearly what I was actually looking at. Lots of shreds, webs, cables, shards, broken furniture, crazy patterns, and a colour spectrum availing itself of everything a good junkyard can offer. ‘Gothic tomb with water damage meets Romanian communist era brothel’, may have been a succinct caption. The next few rooms were different, but certainly no better. We came upon a room themed ‘Dracula’s Storage’, another themed ‘Perpendicular is for Wusses’, and another ‘Emphysema Central’. All rooms provided overbearing, olfactory experiences ranging from ‘Old Men Smoking 24/7’ to ‘Dead Rat Festering in Flushtank’. “This is a joke, right?” I asked the hotel boy. “We’ll both have a good laugh at all this now, and then you are going to show me the real hotel. Right? Right?” Compared to the reality of the place, the 72 devastating online feedbacks of the hotel seemed downright flattering. What had some users written again? “You need one helluva sense of humor to be stayin’ here!” (user Abe_20, New York City), “Creature comforts – oh yes, plenty of creatures” (user DoraNora, Melbourne), “Seeing is disbelieving” (user MorrisOxford, Nottingham). How right they were. But the hotel boy said nothing. Instead, he opened one more room. I barely dared have a look. But this room actually smelled nice. A bit too much incense, but there was only very little decay and rot by comparison to the others. It was done up in largely matching earth tones, and had a raunchy painting of a turbaned musician in the company of two voluptuous maids on the wall. The bathroom wasn’t for the faint of heart, but it seemed altogether a lot less unacceptable than the previous horrors. “It’s beautiful, my friend. I’ll take it,” I said. The hotel boy smiled and released me into my new habitat. Having connected the power by slotting the room key into the switch next to the door, all gadgets immediately sprung to life. The TV was booming with Indian dance music, showing the best of old men singing badly while armies of girls in red saris were bouncing through the background. The ceiling fan went into overdrive, swatting a few hapless anopheles mosquitos; fluorescents came on with a metallic whirring sound, pointlessly dim lightbulbs began to glow in various places, and the heap of soot-blackened plastic wreckage on the wall I had thought nothing of initially actually turned out to be a functioning air conditioner. It did sound and smell as if it were driven by a tiny, angry diesel engine, but any cold air was good air to me. I shut everything off except for the air conditioner and went into the bathroom to take a shower. Turning the warm water tap gave me a sound not unlike a cow mooing in deep despair, and soon, the whole wall began to tremble and shake, tiles coming loose, cement bits crumbling to the ground, but no water. I quickly shut it off and went with a cold shower instead. I will not talk about the toilet. I will only say this: There is something wrong when you need to climb up on one and can’t reach the ground with your feet once you’re up; and flushing it should not require taking another shower, even if the lid is shut and you are standing at arm’s length from the toilet when flushing it. I do not care how someone will one day get the bit of toilet paper down from the ceiling. I have never before seen a toilet lid fly open and shatter just because I flushed. Suitably shaken, I finally went to bed around 1:30 a.m. and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I was dreaming of elephant stampedes. The 1:47 freight train from northern Maharashtra roared past my window, blowing its horn to make sure no hotel guests were missing their chances of jumping in front of it. The whole room was shaking, the noise even blotting out the rattle of the air conditioner. Eventually, it faded away, into the distance, leaving behind only the disoriented barking of some disturbed street dogs and a few mooing cows. I went back to sleep, strenuously working my way toward REM Phase, when a loud bang shattered the night and an acidic, metallic stench filled the room. Plastic parts flew around, clattering onto the floor. Sparks flew in all directions, and the air conditioner began emitting heart-wrenching little noises, indicating it was breathing its last, and perhaps intending to take me with it, judging from the sheer volume of smoke filling the room. I lunged for the master power key and pulled it. A relieved, smoldering hiss came fom the air conditioner’s corner of the room. I opened the door to have light, shoved my things into my bag, and sauntered on down to reception, followed by billowing, black clouds. It was 3:13 a.m. “Good evening, Sir,” I said amicably to the loudly snoring receptionist, who lay face down on his desk. “G-Good Evening!” he came to life with a start, looking every bit as startled as I am sure he must have been to see a disheveled western guest with all his luggage in front of him in the middle of the night. “H-How may I help you, Sir?” I told him that my air conditioner had exploded, and that my room was presumably on fire. “Air conditioner not working, Sir?” he asked, possibly in denial of the truth. “Air conditioner never working again, ever. Hotel probably same, unless you call fire department right now” I tried to put things in perspective for him. He nodded in acknowledgment of the gravity of the situation and called a hotel boy to go and take a peek. I spent the evacuation period in the lobby, updating my status on Facebook to reassure my contacts of my survival even before the media would get wind of things. By now, the fire department had arrived in the shape of construction workers from a nearby construction site, carrying buckets of sand up to my room. It was then I understood where the thick layers of dust in the stairwell had come from. This wouldn’t have been the first time buckets of sand had been carried up to the rooms. Soon, the receptionist approached me with a hotel boy and a room key. I was given a new room, and a bill – for Wi-Fi use in the lobby. The new room, I saw immediately, would handle these kinds of malheurs much better. It looked like it had been on fire before. If you come to Bombay, you must stay at the InContinental. Somebody has to. Cool painting though, isn’t it.

Is there any theoretical method to find the time required by the engine to reach certain RPM?

There is no fixed formula as the time depends on a lot of factors such as engine size, fuel ratio, stroke length etc. This also depends upon the transmission system, gear ratio, load applied and drive system of the vehicle. A practical example is racing cars such as McLaren reach the maximum RPM in a fraction of a second while cars such as Toyota Innova take many seconds to reach the upper limit.

Which is a better vehicle for self-driving and long-term use, Tata Hexa or Toyota Innova?

Hi, Comparing Innova and HEXA HEXA Innova Length (mm) 4788 4735 Width (mm) 1903 1830 Height (mm) 1791 1795 Seating Capacity (Person) 7 7 Displacement (cc) 2179 2694 Fuel Type Diesel Petrol Max Power (bhp@rpm) 154 @ 4000 164 @ 5200 Max Torque (Nm@rpm) 400 @ 1700 245 @ 4000 Mileage (ARAI) (kmpl) 14.4 11.25 Transmission Type Manual Manual No of gears (Gears) 6 5 Drivetrain AWD Rear Wheel Drive Air Conditioner Automatic Climate Control Manual Power Windows Front & Rear Front & Rear Airbags 6 Airbags 3 Airbags Seat Upholstery Leather Fabric The upper stats may change as per the model modification by the manufacturer, I would suggest Toyota better than Tata on the following terms:- 1. Toyota has a better engine compared to Tata. 2. Toyota engine can last for lakhs of Kilometer 3. Toyota has the better build quality 4. Tata cars are porn to corrosion 5. Toyota has a better service quality in terms of car service 6. Toyota gets higher resell value compared to Tata. So I would suggest that if you are looking for a long-term usage with value for money proposition with higher resell value, Go in for Toyota Innova without a doubt.

Which is the best 7 seater SUV in India (money is not an issue)?

Best 7 seater cars in India are a as follows - The Toyota Innova-which is like a plush, comfortable 7 seater couch which you can readily take out on short & long drives alike.recommending ( Toyota Innova crysta) The Renault Lodgy -has the stereotypical boxy look of an MPV. That being said, the Lodgy isn’t bad to look at it with it’s chrome grille and those angular feline headlamps. Unlike it’s compact competitors Mobilia & Ertiga, it really offers the third seat passengers with the luxury of true space. It is shorter in length than our forerunner Innova, but has a longer wheelbase & is second best 7 seater car. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga-Maruti’s first people mover which does not look like a kidnapper’s wet dream, Maruti has come a long way in terms of designing from the likes of Versa & Omni to Ertiga to feature in the list of best 7 seater cars. Honda BR-V -Honda’s retort to the dismal response received by Mobilio, the BR-V is actually a compact SUV based on the same platform as it’s siblings – Brio, Amaze & Mobilio. But since it’s a typical budget 7 seater, I have included on 7 seater cars. The BR-V stands for ‘Bold Runabout Vehicle’. Mahindra Xylo-Mahindra is well known for it’s powerful diesel engines which have powered many a powerful beast like the Scorpio & XUV500. Having such a tried & tested, reliable drive train along with those comfortable plushy seats only adds to the Xylo’s appeal which is the 5th & last car to feature on the best 7 seater cars list.

Do you think that Toyota cars are bit more expensive in India?

Not just TOYOTA but all premium cars are expensive in India. There is one reason why: Heavy Taxes. I recently purchased a Toyota Innova Touring Sport and did a back of envelope calculation to find the below. GST: 28 % and additional cess if 15% means a Rs. 15 Lakh Car attracts Rs. 6.45 L GST. Total Rs. 21.45 L ex showroom. Road Tax and registration 12 to 15 % depending on RTO on GST paid price. Adding another 2.55L pushing the total to Rs. 24 Lakhs. Environmental cess@1% TCS (Tax Collected at Source)@1% both additions add another 50 k. Handling, Fast Tag, Insurance add another 1 L pushing the total to 25.5 L. Toyota gets 15 L for the car and the govt. collects 10L towards taxes. The 15 lakh towards the car may include certain taxes levied on import of parts. Effectively the total tax on any car more than 4 Meters in length is 60% of the basic price of a car which is very high compared to the taxes in US. Toyota May be selling a car at the same price in India as in US, it’s the Government which is collecting taxes on car sales making it expensive. As per a report over 7% of the GDP of India comes from automotive sector creating millions of direct and 50 million + indirect jobs. Disclaimer: the actual tax calculation may be slight different than one shown above. Indirect jobs include Drivers (private and ola/uber) cleaners, spare / accessory shop owners, Authorized / unauthorised service shops, petrol pumps, RTO office employees etc.
