toyota innova gearbox Q&A Review

Is the Toyota Innova Crysta AT or AMT?

I drive Toyota Innova Touring Sport 2.8L AT. The AT gearbox is a six speed torque converter which is very smooth and suited for the engine. This gearbox and engine combination is the same which is used in FORTUNER by Toyota. Driving an Innova AT is super easy, the gear changes are smooth and you do not even feel the changing of gears. The engine has three modes Eco, Normal and Power, 80% of the times the car is run in the eco mode to get a good fuel economy typically 13 to 14 kmpl. Power mode changes the charecter of the vehicle making it go wild. Floor it in power mode and feel the butterflies in the stomach. Besides the fun, power mode is very useful while driving in the mountains. Steep climb, no problem and combined with the fantastic AT gearbox with Hill Hold control, drving the Innova is a delight. While the others are struggling with changing gears and adjusting the clutch and accelerator, Innova zooms like a breeze.

Which one should I buy, a Tata Hexa, a Mahindra XUV 500 or a Toyota Innova?

Don't know about the Hexa. But as of the XUV and Innova: XUV is a value for money proposition. For the innova you have to pay a few extra bucks. Innova surely leads in interior quality. Its a toyota after all. Again, Innova’s comfort is unmatched. XUV is feature laden vehicle: You have almost all the features you require in that budget. Mahindra’s good after sales service compared to toyota. Road presence. Advantage of sunroof. I would personally suggest the XUV. But don't go for automatic. You can't really trust Mahindra’s auto gearbox. Go for the W10 manual! Happy motoring :)

Why Tata Hexa failed to challenge the dominance of Toyota Innova?

I own Hexa I will try to answer after resding negative reviews about the quality, here comes a direct review from owner himself. Pros Excellent interiors, I would say they have done a fantastic job with it. Use of black with a touch of piano finish and the aluminium lining and leatherite cool box with Hexa embossed on it looks classy, Innova on the other hand too many materials used, it doesnt look premium enough. But i would say the roof with the ambient lighting in the back looks cool Hexa is a SUV and can go off the tarmac in even 4x2 guise and can do a bit of off-roading with 4x4 option, Innova is a MPV can take you from point A to Point B in comfort Excellent ride and handling on Hexa. Good feedback from the steering and excellent highway manners with minimal body roll. Not sure about the ride and handling but Hexa excels it for sure Infotainment system is basic on both. But audio quality is miles ahead of Innova Supremely comfortable seats you wont feel tired even of you drive 8–10 hrs in stretch, seats are on the thinner side on the Innova Third row is actually usable on the Hexa than the Innova. However where Innova excels is the flexi third row seats nothing like that in the market Innova looks too long, the back Hexa is finished much better and the design looks classy, Innova looks like a van in comparison Steering is heavy at low speed but not that heavy that you will develop mustles it provides good feedback on Hexa, however Hexa doesn’t like tight u turns but its not a deal breaker And somebody was talking about the refinement there is no problem at all the engine is very smooth and the AT gearbox is a gem of a box. To conclude Hexa excels Innova in every respect and being heavy doesn’t mean its slow its no slouch, it can carry its weight and passengers and their luggage with ease with that 400nm it has more than enough grunt. But Innova has built a brand name also its popular amongst taxis and thats a big advantage for Innova since its a MPV. Hexa on the other hand is bought by someone who really knows what they are buying similar to Safari. Have you seen anybody saying ‘Are uske pas Scorpio hai ya XUV hai’ but you must have heard this ‘Are uske pas Safari hai’ thats the respect people have for Safari and for that matter Hexa. It all comes down to brand value and experience after sales, have heard good stories about Toyota and some horror stories about Tata but things are improving at Tata too but it takes time to build that reputation again. People are putting faith in Tata nowadays with Tiago, Nexon ruling the chart (not in last few months after XUV 300) and I am hopeful that they will continue innovating and improving as the time goes. Edit 1: I see lot of comments bashing Tata which are simply based on assumptions, every car has problem Innova Crysta too. But being a popular brand merits merits it won’t appear in any car magazines, attaching a reference URL from team bhp for Crysta niggles, https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/technical-stuff/181434-niggles-issues-toyota-innova-crysta.html Edit 2: Thank you guys for upvotes 400+ counting :)

Which is a better vehicle for self-driving and long-term use, Tata Hexa or Toyota Innova?

Well, as others have already mentioned a comparo between the Toyota Innova and the Tata Hexa specs wise, I am going straight to the question and its answer To be Honest, both these two cars are not a great choice for self driving btw. These two cars are premium people moving cars. There is a significant amount of price difference between the Toyota Innova and Tata Hexa. Yes, the Toyota Innova is the Undisputed king of the segment and aces others clearly when it comes down to reliability. But the Tata Hexa is no slouch either and don't forget, the Hexa has a 4x4 option which is still cheaper than the Innova Crysta. With 4x4, the Hexa will help you through the rough. Hexa is a XL sized crossover, whereas the Innova is a people mover. But for being self driven, the manual Tata Hexa with its long clutch travel, long throw gearbox, the huge turning radius and not to mention its huge size might be intimidating. Not that the Toyota Innova is a tiny car. The final choice comes down to the budget, 4x4 requirement or not, reliability and personal preferences like looks, size etc Here's a comparison between the two Compare Tata Hexa vs Toyota Innova Crysta Courtesy : ,New Cars, Used Cars, Car Prices, Reviews & Images in India

Toyota Innova crysta or Tata Hexa. Which car is better?

It’s a tough call, given that both 7-seater MPVs are ideal family cars, perfect for the average Indian family that is larger than most parts of the world. However if you ask me, the Toyota Innova wins the competition by a small margin, even though ,Tata Hexa, is priced lesser than Crysta. Here are the value propositions being offered by both cars: Tata Hexa: Price: Rs. 11.37, Lakhs onwards (Avg. Ex-Showroom) Powered by a powerful 154bhp motor Looks more interesting and more in your face than the Innova Seat comfort in all three rows is really good, overall build quality is solid and Ride comfort is a notch or two better than the Innova Toyota Innova Crysta: Price: ,Rs 13.38 Lakhs onwards (Avg. Ex-Showroom) Well-equipped cabin, practical nature and Toyota dependability Engine is much more punchier than the Hexa More versatile and well put together Packed with loads of features Verdict: ,Tata Hexa’s engine could have done with more punch at low revs, gearbox is sloppy, ergonomics are not the best, lot of features are missing and small details like the third row not folding flat marks it down further. ,The Innova Crysta wins this test purely as a better product. ,The punchier engine, and loads of features, and versatility along with Toyota's reputation of reliability, aftersales service and resale value makes it a more superior car despite the higher price and jiggly overall ride.

Which is better: Tata Hexa vs Toyota Innova?

Innova has lighter weight. gives more fuel economy. but hexa is bigger, has more features, has more value for the money. Loaded with 6 automatic gearbox of General motors which is great.

Is the Tata Hexa worth the investment?

I believe that no car is an investment. Every personal car is a purchase. I belive you wanted to ask whether the Tata Hexa is a worthy purchase. Let me help you. I personally own the Tata Hexa XT 4x4. The engine of the car churns out 156HP and 400Nm. You might think this is a lot but we also have to factor in that the car weights 2.28 tons. Despite this you will never feel any lack of power and this car has a well spaced gearbox which helps channel power appropriately. The gearbox does have a downside through. It's very clunky to use. The clutch is extremely light and has a self adjusting mechanism which will ensure that the clutch remains light over the lifespan of the car. The gearbox on the other hand is notchy and feels extremely rubbery. I wouldn't recommend the manual transmission if your driving consists of over 90% city. The car comes loaded with features. 10 speaker JBL audio system, Harman ICE, 8 colour ambient mood lighting, 19″ alloys, full plastic cladding, full LED tail lamps, heated ORVM's, rear sunshades, Italian leather seats, voice control and a Borg Warner 4x4 transfer case based on TOD requirements. On the safety front it has 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control, Hill Hold Control and Hill Decent Control, all 4 disk brakes and a standard reverse sensors and camera combination with adaptive guide lines. Comfort wise it has a best in class suspension setup despite it's ladder on frame construction. It's extremely comfortable and the ride quality is smooth on the 19″ wheels. It will be even better on the 16″ wheels on the XE and XM variants. Space is ample. You will not find any problem in all 3 rows of seats. In terms of 3rd row seat comfort, it is better than the XUV 500 and the Toyota Innova.

In your experience, is it more pleasant to drive automatic or manual gearbox?

Pleasant it depend but manual sure looks cool ! Oh yeah, the sound effects are as dumb as it could, but what would be left to watch if they had automatics ? The plot ? come on ! So at least, I can pretend I’m cool when I downshift my Toyota Innova … Or my Mum’s Kangoo …
