Toyota cars have managed to secure the most 5-star ratings in the ASEAN NCAP test for the period of 2019-2020. With that, Toyota has been awarded as “The Most 5-Star Brand" by ASEAN NCAP in the 4th ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards 2020.

From 2019 to 2020, the following Toyota cars have been awarded 5-star ASEAN NCAP ratings. Cars tested in the period of 2019-2020 are tested with the ASEAN NCAP 2017-2020 Protocol.

Toyota Corolla Altis (2019)

Scoring 33.71/36 in for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 43.8/49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP), the Toyota Corolla Altis is worthy of the 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating.

The Corolla Altis manages a perfect score in the COP frontal impact (16/16) and side impact (8/8) test.

Toyota Innova (2020)

Another Toyota to obtain 5 stars is the 7-seater MPV, the 2020 Toyota Innova. The Innova lacks in blind spot technology and advanced safety assist technologies, but almost gets a full-score for its crash-test performance (both front and side impact).

Toyota Hilux & Toyota Fortuner (2020)

Living up to its tough look, the Toyota Hilux/Fortuner also manages 5 stars. While the moose test may not be in favor of the Hilux, it scores a decent 32.93/36 for AOP and 44.04/49 for COP.

Equipped with AEB, lane-departure warning, and forward collision warning, the range-topping Hilux in Malaysia is a definite 5-star-safety utility vehicle.

Toyota Corolla Cross (2020)

In the pipeline of the Toyota line up is the Toyota Corolla Cross. If you’re excited about the spyshots, the good news is that it is worthy of a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating. Being a much newer car, the Corolla Cross shows one of the highest Blindspot technology scores in the Toyota Lineup.

Perfect scores are obtained for COP crash-testing, advanced safety assist technologies, AEB, and side impact crash testing.

The final Toyota to receive a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating is the Toyota Hiace which is the base for the Toyota Majesty for the Thai market.

All the 5-star awards for 2019-2020 are based on the ASEAN NCAP 2017/2020 protocol. The new ASEAN NCAP 2021-2015 Protocol would assess the effectiveness of more advanced-safety-assist technologies and even include motorcyclist safety as a new scoring pillar.

Toyota cars have managed to prove their worthiness of the 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating. As the assessment evolves, the safety of future cars is expected to improve.
