The 2024 Toyota Hiluxfacelift will move into Australian showrooms in March 2024, with the market being the first in the world to sell the pick-up truck with its new hybrid powertrain.
With its revamped aesthetic β first seen in Indonesia β that highlights a tougher front end, the main draw of the refreshed Hilux for Australia is its new 48-volt, mild-hybrid (MHEV) technology. It will be standard fitment to the higher-end variants for the market, namely the 4x4 Rogue and automatic SR5 double-cabs, while remaining optional for the 4x4 SR double cab range.
Toyota Australia says the electrified system contributes to a 6-10% improvement in engine smoothness and fuel economy for the 2.8-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder mill, compared to the currently-employed non-hybrid engines.
As detailed in a prior post, fuel consumption is claimed to be down by 5 percent, and the engine idling speed is also reduced from 720 rpm to 600 rpm.
Variants with this technology in Australia also benefit from Multi-Terrain Select for enhanced off-road capabilities, which also offers six drive mode selections.
Additional upgrades include dual-zone automatic climate control, smart entry and start, automatic up-down control for power windows, and carpet floor mats for SR grades with optional 48-volt technology. All SR double-cab automatic pick-up grades now come equipped with two front and four rear parking sensors.
For added convenience, Australian-market SR5, Hilux Rogue, and GR Sport variants will feature a wireless charging pad and two rear USB-C ports for double-cab variants.
