Inching closer to its launch, we apparently now have the actual name of the production version of the Toyota IMV0 Concept – and it's likely to be called the 2023 Toyota Hilux Champ. Charming name for a plucky truck.

Anyway, it's been spotted as such in Thailand by Facebook user I'm Tatchai, presumeably in the midst of shooting work for advertisements. About time, as news on the grapevine says the vehicle should make its full official launch on 27-November 2023.

Grouping it under the Hilux model should also pay off as the name is almost akin to the country's national car at this point; the top of the sales chart is where it sits most of the time, until the Isuzu D-Max came along. However, familiarity is always a strong point to fall back on.

Anyway, on to the Hilux Champ's specs. Preliminary facts and figures by our sister site, Autofun Thailand, shows a footprint comparable to the regular Hilux, if a little less wide:

Customisation is the name of the game for the Hilux Champ. Its single-cab platform allows for a modular cab area, so whether customers would like to make theirs a food truck, a veggie transporter, or simply room for more passengers, it's all theoratically possible. Toyota says you can swap body styles in under an hour.

Similarly diverse are the expected forms of propulsion. Autofun says it could be offered with two engines at the start (2.0L 1TR-FE 4-cyl petrol, 139 PS/183 Nm or 2.4L 2GD-FTV turbodiesel, 150 PS/359 Nm), but knowing of Toyota's multi-pathway strategy, we wouldn't discount electrified options in the future.

Autolife Thailand estimated that it would cost around THB 500,000 (~RM 66k) which is cheaper than the most basic Hilux offered in the Kingdom, priced at THB 564,000 (~RM 73k).
