The Toyota Hilux Hybridwill join the company's European commercial vehicle fleet soon, joining the rest of its electrified range that also includes battery-electric (BEV) van offerings.
First seen bashing sand dunes in Kenya, the Hilux Hybrid is equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that primarily serves to improve fuel efficiency while reducing emissions. Toyota has also fettled with the car's throttle response and acceleration traits to enhance its off-road capabilities.
Most importantly, these come to no compromise to its 3,500 kg towing and 1,000 kg payload capacities respectively.
Specifications for Europe will be shared "in detail at launch", but Australia – which announced the model for their market earlier this year – has confirmed it's the 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine that will be electrified, cutting fuel consumption by up to 10 percent.
Besides the Hilux Hybrid, Toyota Professional - the company's commercial vehicles arm in Europe - also announced the introduction of the Proace Max battery electric (BEV) van. It's...like a Lego van, available in six configurations (two wheelbases, three lengths, three heights!) for multiple load-carrying options. Its range is up to 420 km on the WLTP range.
The Proace Max joins the Proace, Proace Verso, and Proace City line-up. An Europe-only range, the Proace is co-developed between Toyota and PSA Peugeot Citroën, leading to a trifecta of models sharing the same specs and available configurations – the Proace, Peugeot Expert, and Citroën Jumpy.
