Android Auto & Apple CarPlay in Proton cars 'not so soon'; X90's software to be further enhanced for new models

At the ongoing media drive event for the Proton X90, Roslan Abdullah, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton has clarified that Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration in the brand's models won't be imminent.
"To answer on the Android Auto and CarPlay, the simple answer is not too soon. Of course in development we still look into Android Auto and CarPlay. If we say soon, then the next model that's coming...it won't be there yet. But the team is looking into opportunities," he said.
"At the same time, we are looking into the improvement of the current IHU (integrated headunit) that you experience in the X90, or even the X70. The platform will be changed to accomodate the rapid change of technologies," Roslan continued.
Suffice to say, Proton's next launch – the S50/S70 sedan – won't be having the one-touch phone connectivity, but rather an iteration of the Atlas OS system that's currently in the X90 three-row SUV.
The X90's headunit and software
Atlas OS is developed by Malaysian-Chinese joint venture, ACO Tech, and it comes with its own set of navigation and functions, including voice commands.
