The Proton X90 has just been launched in Brunei, and reception has been great – the first batch of cars have been sold out, with more on the way.
Just like it is in Malaysia, there's four variants there. The range starts from the BND 35,000 (~RM 119k) 1.5 TGDi Standard, followed by the 1.5 TGDi Executive at BND 38,000 (~RM 130k), the 1.5 TGDi Premium priced at BND 40,000 (~RM 137k), and the range-topping 1.5 TGDi Flagship which costs BND 42,000 (~RM 140k).
All variants are powered by the 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder mill that outputs 177 PS and 255 Nm of torque, accompanied by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system providing an electric boost of 14 PS and 52 Nm. Total combined system output is 190 PS; with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT) sending drive to the front wheels.
It's offered in both six- and seven-seater arrangements; and just like it is here the car is pretty well-equipped for ferrying family members around – full LED headlamps are standard, and going up the price scale brings more creature comforts like leatherette upholstery (Nappa leather is reserved for the Premium and Flagship variants), 360-degree camera, and a powered tailgate.
Proton's suite of ADAS is fitted in the Premium and Flagship variants, covering these features:
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC, works from 0 to 150 km/h)
Lane Change Assist (LCA)
Rear Collision Warning (RCW)
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
Traffic Sign Information (TSI)
Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC)
Brunei's source of the Proton X90 comes from Tanjung Malim, and our Eastern neighbours are the third country to get the model after South Africa welcomed it last week. The X90's first destination outside of Malaysia was Mauritius.
