At long last, the highly anticipated Honda WR-V has officially been launched. The entry-level SUV will now take its place just under the Honda HR-V and is offered in Malaysia in four variants starting from RM 89,900.
The locally-assembled (CKD Pegoh, Melaka) Honda WR-V competes against the Perodua Ativa (albeit with a higher price) and features the same L15 i-VTEC engine as the B-segment Honda City (and City Hatchback) and borrows bits of its platform from the current 7-seater BR-V (which is not sold here) as well.

To understand just how much is shared between the two models, Ms. Poychat Ua-arayaporn, Large Project Leader of the Honda WR-V explains, “The front half of the car until the B-Pillar is the same.”
“Also the suspension and powertrain are the same. But the rear half is all new,” she added.

It is, for this reason, the WR-V features a similar dashboard layout to the Honda BR-V and unlike the Honda City and City Hatchback. Although, the 7-seater Honda BR-V has a substantially longer wheelbase, at 2,695 mm, versus the WR-V’s 2,485 mm.

As for the percentage of parts and components borrowed from the Honda City, Ms Poychat added, "We do not have an exact figure. On the interior, the TFT meter is common with the City and also the BR-V.”

“Perhaps the next thing you see is the Display Audio. In the City we use an 8-inch (unit), and the WR-V uses a 7-inch (unit). The layout is quite similar, but the unit is developed specifically for the WR-V to fit the instrument panel. The software is also new to adapt to the WR-V’s camera and LaneWatch functions,” she added.
Elaborating further Ms Poychat said that even the gearshifter may look familiar to the City, but it’s actually shared with the BR-V.

She elaborates that in most Honda models, there is familiarity with specific interior components because of the Human Machine Interface (HMI) interior concept which prioritises simplicity, ease of use and overall comfort.
Thus, it is Honda’s aim for customers to get in and instantly feel at home in the Honda WR-V.

To recap, the Honda WR-V offers a 121 PS / 145 Nm 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine paired with a CVT-type automatic transmission.

All but the base 'S' variant come fitted with the Honda Sensing features ADAS, which includes an array of eight safety functions:
- Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)
- Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Auto High Beam (AHB)
Honda LaneWatch is also included, as with Honda Connect telematics.
The four variants of the 2023 Honda WR-V are priced as follows:
- 1.5 S - RM 89,900
- 1.5 E - RM 95,900
- 1.5 V - RM 99,900
- 1.5 RS - RM 107,900
Ahead of its launch today, Honda has already received 2,500 bookings for the Honda WR-V since order books opened on 12-June 2023.
