Around 2 years after its global unveiling, the facelifted Mazda CX-5 is unveiled in Vietnam. Assembled locally (CKD) at the Thaco Mazda plant in Quang Nam, Vietnam, the refreshed CX-5 is available in the country in 5 variants:
CX-5 2.0 Deluxe – VND 749 million (~RM 143.5k)
CX-5 2.0 Luxury – VND 789 million (~RM 151k)
CX-5 2.0 Premium – VND 829 million (~RM 159k)
CX-5 2.0 Premium Sport – VND 849 million (~RM 163k)
CX-5 2.0 Premium Exclusive – VND 869 million (~RM 166.5k)
The CX-5 is one of the most popular Mazda models in Vietnam with nearly 100,000 units sold since the first generation was introduced there in 2012.
The Vietnamese-spec CX-5 is powered by a naturally-aspirated (NA) 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G petrol engine that makes 156 PS and 200 Nm. That engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels (FWD).
Besides the 2.0-litre unit, the CX-5 is also available in Vietnam with an NA 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G petrol unit (191 PS/252 Nm) with the same transmission that sends power to all 4 wheels (AWD) according to the brochure. Prices for the CX-5 2.5 AWD though are not revealed.
The updated CX-5 comes with a fresher look on the outside with a new front grille design as well as redesigned headlights and taillights. On the inside, things appear mostly unchanged though the refreshed CX-5 comes with a 7-inch instrument display, wireless Apple CarPlay, heated seats and a heated steering wheel depending on the variants.
The Premium variants are available in Vietnam with two premium packages, Sport and Exclusive. The Sport package adds black 19-inch wheels and a few sporty visual enhancements while the Exclusive package adds Nappa leather into the mix.
Standard safety features on all variants of the new CX-5 in Vietnam include 6 airbags, ABS, traction control, blind-spot monitors, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Mazda i-Activsense ADAS suite is only added to the mid-range Luxury variant and above which comprises:
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
Lane-keep Assist System (LAS)
Smart City Brake Support Front & Rear (SCBS F&R)
Smart Brake Support (SBS)
Driver Attention Alert (DAA)
Besides Vietnam, the new Mazda CX-5 is also on sale in Singapore and Indonesia though for both of those markets, the SUV is fully imported (CBU) from Japan. The outgoing pre-facelift CX-5 is still on sale in Malaysia where it is locally assembled (CKD) at the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah. With Vietnam launching its own CKD CX-5 facelift, perhaps Malaysia could eventually follow suit.
