As the upcoming Geely Emgrand-based 2023 Proton S70 is about to make its local debut in Malaysia, another set of spyshots pop up online. This latest set is from a Facebook group dedicated to Proton’s first all-new sedan model since the current generations of the Persona and Saga were launched in 2016.

Undisguised and resplendent in silver, this S70 appears to be the base variant that might be called the S70 Standard. This is evident by the absence of a sunroof which is seen in some of the other spyshots.

Aside from the front grille which is similar to the X90’s studded grille and a more distinct-looking wheel design, it appears the upcoming sedan is a simple rebadge.

However, the biggest talking point might be what is under the hood. There were rumours that the S70 could be offered with 4 variants ranging from Standard, Premium, Executive, and Flagship. While the Emgrand is only available with a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine, the S70 could receive a different powerplant or maybe even two.

The turbocharged 1.5-litre 3-pot similar to the X50 and X70 could very well be certain as Proton has invested in a new engine plant. Still, there might be a possibility that the S70 could also be offered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged mild-hybrid unit as seen in the X90.
