Our first real look at the upcoming 2023 Proton S50 - also rumoured to be named the Proton S70 - comes courtesy of this spyshot snapped by Mohd Sabri Mohd Sirah on a Facebook group.

Undisguised for all to see, the pic (albeit blurry) showcases the basic look of the sedan: the front and rear bumpers, at least from the sides look the same as its donor model, the Geely Emgrand. However we do know that more differences will be on the front fascia courtesy of a studded grille, as seen in earlier spyshots.

Two-tone wheels adorn the sides, as well as some chrome details. The bright red colour seems to be a new addition to Proton's palette as well. Obviously there's only so much to be told from this sole pic, so watch this space as we bring you more updates as we have it.

2023 Proton S50/S70 launch in Malaysia

Prior to this, multiple spyshots were shared of Proton's upcoming sedan, each with their own differentiating factors. Some cars were seen with a sunroof, while some have a different grille than others.

Further details, such as powertrain and all that, naturally haven't been disclosed, but it's highly likely that a variant of the 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged mill will be part of the mix. A mild-hybrid one like that serving in the Proton X90 could also be on the cards.

A launch date hasn't been ascertained at point of publication, but it take place sometime this quarter.
