Proton S70 engine
What's under the hood is also confirmed to be the MPI version (port fuel injection only, no direct injection) of Proton's 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged mill; producing 150 PS and 226 Nm of torque. This engine is also shared with the Proton X50Standard, Executive, and Premium, with the same output.
This engine is locally-made in Proton's Tanjung Malim engine plant. Linked to that mill is the brand's 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (7-DCT). It's front-wheel drive (FWD).
Drivers will be able to switch between three driving modes: Eco, Sport, and Comfort.
Proton S70 suspension
Underneath the skin, the S70 comes with MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam setup at the back; on par with the Geely Emgrand sold elsewhere. It rests on the BMA (B-segment Modular Architecture) platform that's also shared with the X50.
Like the engine, the steering can also be attuned to either Normal, Sport, and Comfort modes.
Lots of time were spent localising the suspension, so it should be the Proton quality we've grown to recognise: the company says 75,000 man hours and over 1.2 million kilometres of testing were done for suspension tuning.
Proton S70 safety and ADAS
In terms of safety, the Proton S70 comes with 6 airbags as standard alongside the bevy of requisite active safety items (ABS, EBD, VSC, and so on).
Beyond that, it also gets a suite of advanced driver aids (ADAS), as below. Note which variant which gets what too:
Proton X70 ADAS

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go (ACC w/ S&G)

Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC)
Flagship, Flagship X

These systems work through a 12-sensor setup, which includes a milimetre wave radar (effective range of up to 30 metres), and a monocular camera that can 'see' up to 150 metres.
Beyond the above, the S70 also comes with a 360-degree camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Proton S70 price and launch date
With official photos shown, full specifications now disclosed, the launch of the Proton S70 draws ever closer. Prices will be shared on its proper launch day.
That said, bookings are open at RM 500 a pop. Public previews have been up and running at selected dealers around the country since 11-November 2023.
