2021 is turning out pretty impressive for Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) as it recorded historical high sales performance in April with 1,872 vehicles sold.

That month’s sales also strengthened Mitsubishi’s hold on the top three position in the non-national brand ranking for the fourth consecutive month.

The three diamonds have the Xpander to thank for its record sales. Malaysians have generally fallen in love with the 7-seater car as 982 units have been sold in April, equivalent to 52% of the company’s sales.

According to MMM, the Mitsubishi Xpander has dominated the "non-national MPV" segment since January and 3,800 units have been delivered so far. Over 10,000 units of the 7-seater SUV have been booked since it was launched in November 2020.

If this momentum keeps up, the Xpander is certainly the family car many Malaysians are looking to get in 2021.

Elsewhere, Mitsubishi sold 680 units of the Triton in April, maintaining 20% market share in the pick-up segment. Out of those 680 units, 142 of them were the newly-launched Triton Athlete which we had reviewed here.

Just like many car companies around the world, it seems that certain supplies would be affecting Mitsubishi’s production. However, the Chief Executive Officer of MMM, Tomoyuki Shinnishi, is optimistic that Mitsubishi’s sales would consistently move in a positive direction.

“Despite the challenges of supply constraints, Mitsubishi Motors is working our best to meet the expectation of our customers on the delivery preference,” Shinnishi said.
