A lot of the cars which are popular in Europe aren’t that popular in the US so you might be looking for the wrong cars. The only way we can even get close to ‘22% of exports’ is if we consider cars owned by American companies in Europe at European factories ‘exports.’ Otherwise, it is a handful of models. You can see on ,https://www.trade.gov/td/otm/assets/auto/ExportPaper2015.pdf, that in 2015, the US exported only a few hundred thousand cars to Europe, not 1 million. I imagine CNBC is counting cars made in Europe but made by American companies. Counting American cars made in Europe: The Ford Fiesta is one of the best selling American cars in Europe, and was designed by Ford in Europe: The four door Fiesta is even used by the police forces of some countries: The Ford Focus is also fairly popular and was also designed by Ford in Europe: The Fiesta is actually the most bought car in the UK, and the Focus is fourth: The UK’s top 10 most popular cars Counting cars made in the US by American brands: The Ford Mustang and Ford Explorer are both made in the US and exported to Europe. Explorer Mustang: General Motors exports the Buick Enclave to Europe: Jeep Manufactures most of its vehicles in the US, but is jointly owned by an Italian company and an American company. The Jeep Renegade, for example, is made in the US and exported all over the world. Tesla manufactures all of its cars in California, and these are also exported all over the world: Counting cars made in the US by non-American brands: Two Japanese companies: Honda and Nissan also made some models in the US and then export those to Europe. The Honda Acura and Mitsubishi Outlander are both Japanese cars made in the US, but exported to Europe. Honda Acura: Mitsubishi Outlander: More cars are made in the US and exported to the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand including the Toyota Sienna. BMW, a German company, exports some of its X-series cars and SUVs from the US to Europe. Source: https://www.trade.gov/td/otm/assets/auto/ExportPaper2015.pdf
If in the US any American or Japanese pick up or SUV. You can also find mini vans like the Toyota Sienna that are 4x4. In Europe I would go for a Toyota Landcruiser, any Japanese pick up or SUV or Jeep or Range and Land Rovers.
Mercedes makes the Viano van which is a very popular people mover in Europe. My parents own a Sprinter full-size van. I definitely do *not* count the Mercedes R-class as a minivan, but instead as a crossover, because: *It lacks sliding doors, which are essential for easy loading / unloading of kids and child seats *It is based on a RWD chassis and has more in common with the S-class sedan or GL-class SUV than with a typical FWD car chassis that most minivans are based on *It handles It is strange that you can buy a $47,000 Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, but there isn't a version from Lexus or Acura. The most luxurious crossovers you can buy are: -Ford Flex / Lincoln MKT -Acura RDX -Toyota Venza (there really should be a Lexus version - I like the Venza better than the RX350) -Mazda CX-9 It's my opinion that if you have 50k to spend and don't want a minivan, you should buy a wagon. -Volvo XC70 -Mercedes E350 Wagon (the only 2 left on the market, unfortunately)
Unfortunately, it's already happening. Even now, Americans prefer foreign cars. Americans consider Japanese cars to be the most reliable. The top four places are occupied by Subaru, Mazda, Toyota, and Honda. The best, according to Americans, Volvo, a brand from Europe, got fifth place. In the era of globalization, importing a car from abroad is a breeze and sometimes even cheaper. Check out this in-depth article ,https://www.jdmbuysell.com/jdm-importing-tips/how-to-import-a-car-from-japan/,, explaining the process of importing a car from Japan; or this Quora discussion, dedicated to the same topic ,Maria Murray's answer to How do I import a car from Japan to Canada? What is the related cost for export?, that might also be of interest to you. During the coronavirus period, trade turnover with Japan decreased, but not significantly. Therefore, an ordinary American doesn't encounter any problems with buying a Japanese-made car. Consumer Reports, is the most well-known consumer publication in the United States. It makes its ratings based on a survey of readers. In 2011, 1.3 million readers expressed their attitude to certain cars of the 2010-2011 issue in the magazine. The questionnaire consisted of 17 categories that covered all aspects of the" relationship " between the driver and the car: from problems that arise during the use of the car to the convenience of opening doors and sound comfort. Nissan, Hyundai, BMW,, and ,Volkswagen ,were also in the top ten. ,Ford is considered the most reliable domestic brand in the United States. General Motors ,and ,Chrysler ,were at the end of the list. Not because of a huge difference in reliability or some annoying issues, but simply because of the lack of fresh models. Consumer Reports readers choose not only the best brands but also specific models. This year, Toyota was the first to be recognized in five categories:, — The Toyota Camry Hybrid was declared the best family sedan. — The Toyota RAV4 was named the best crossover. — The Toyota Sienna had no competitors among minivans. — Toyota Prius won the laurels of the first among hybrids, and the most Toyota Highlander was deemed the most reliable family all-wheel drive. In the small class, the Americans chose the Subaru Impreza as the most reliable car. However, the, "most American", nomination went to the US auto industry: the Ford Mustang became the best sports car. The Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck topped the rating in its class.
I am not a fan of CVT transmissions. They do not like heavier loads, they are prone to overheating, cost of repair is quite high. A Sienna can be subjected to heavy loads. There has been a question about CVT’s sine they first came out in Europe in the 90’s.
Every major auto manufacturer has international operations, incuding the big American three (Ford, GM and Chrysler). Those three are all based in the United States, in or around Detroit city (Ford - Dearborn, MI; GM - Detroit; Chrysler - Auburn Hills, MI), however they have foreign divisions such as Ford of Europe, or GM Australia (Holden). In Chrysler’s case, they are currently merged with a foreign manufacturer, Fiat (from Italy). Assuming you live in the United States, it is highly unlikely you’ll buy a product from those foreign divisions (the exception was a couple of GM cars badged as Pontiacs and Chevys that were actually Holdens built in Australia), however the domestic branch may have products manufactured outside in Canada or Mexico. Most American cars destined for American consumers are manufactured in the USA, however some are built in Canada or Mexico. This includes: Dodge Charger, Challenger - Built in Canada Dodge Journey, Ram - Built in Mexico Ford Fusion - Built in Mexico Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra (Crew Cab only) - Built in Mexico Now, if you want, you can in fact buy a foreign car that is built in the USA, if you want to support US auto workers. Certain Toyota and Honda models are built in US factories. As of 2016, nine Toyota models and one Lexus model sold in the USA are built in the USA, such as: Toyota Avalon Toyota Camry Toyota Corolla Toyota Highlander Toyota RAV4 Toyota Sequoia Toyota Sienna Toyota Tacoma Toyota Tundra Lexus ES In 2018, 2/3 of US market Hondas and Acuras were built by Honda plants in the USA ,Manufacturing | Honda In America
Warning: This question is [still] under construction. If that happens, then here is a list of neither Toyota, Subaru, Lexus, Peugeot, Citroen, nor DS cars that a future TMC-PSA merger can reengineer it (e.g. Toyotas as Peugeots, Subarus as Citroens, Lexus cars as DS, Peugeots as Toyotas, etc.): Toyota Highlander (aka Toyota Kluger (XU70), source: Wikipedia/Wikimedia) Perhaps, it would be reengineered as a DS instead of a Peugeot since they (Peugeot) already have a mid-size crossover (,Peugeot 5008,, II) Toyota Sienna (XL30, source: Wikipedia/Wikimedia) As with Peugeot already ceased/demised the production of the badge-engineered 807 (from the ,Eurovans, moniker, a direct rival to the VW Sharan and the previous generation Kia Carnival in some parts of Europe), that North America-only Sienna could be useful for Peugeot to reengineer it as the ‘Peugeot 808’, especially since Peugeot still cooperates with TMC as part of its factory in Czechia (source: ,Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Czech,). Toyota Avalon (XX50, source: Wikipedia/Wikimedia) With the Peugeot 607 (an E-segment car) already faced its demise, another of TMC’s NA-only cars like the Avalon would be something that Peugeot can reengineer (as the ‘Peugeot 608’), even with DS Automobiles already in existence. But, that idea can help PSA boost its sales, especially when they promote the merger to countries where Toyota is strong but also, weak (e.g. South Korea (Japan’s foe) and the Philippines, where majority of people deeply like Tokyo). However, Toyota had a reengineering deal with fellow rival Mazda, instead of Peugeot (source: ,Mazda Demio,) For Subaru: Subaru Impreza (GK, source: Wikimedia) If this Subaru still does not market it into Europe (also South Korea), then Citroen can reengineer that as a ‘Citroen Xsara’, whose name was recognizable for its appearances in the World Rally Championship series of rally car racing. Subaru Legacy (seventh generation, source: Wikipedia/Wikimedia) Just like the Impreza, this can also be reengineered as a Citroen too hence the ‘Citroen Xantia’, popular in European roads during the 1990s, but not popular outside its home market. Subaru Ascent (source: Wikimedia/Wikipedia) This but currently, one of the Subaru cars (along with the current-generattion Impreza) that does not market it inside Europe (also South Korea, hence the fact that Subaru left Seoul’s market in 2012), and with Citroen lacking a counterweight to the Peugeot 5008 (II), this (Ascent) can be reengineered as a Citroen, but its name may not yet be marked (unless if PSA already proposed a merger with TMC in cooperation with Subaru, in spite of both Peugeot and TMC’s lineup being full). - ialociN Nicolai
This is not true. During my 20+ years in the US I observed the fact, that also US and German cars were kept for more than 15 years. In Europe, most cars even older than 20 years are domestic brands of all kinds.
