Toyota USA has announced updates for the 2024 Toyota GR86. One of the highlights is the GR86 Trueno Edition, featuring a nostalgic two-tone design in Halo and black or Track bRed and black colour options, limited to 860 units for the US market.
The GR86 Trueno Edition boasts a black wrapped hood, Trueno Edition side panel graphic, and black painted duckbill spoiler, complementing the Halo or Track bRed body colour.
Paying homage to the 1980s model that inspired its design, the front bumper lip and rear decklid proudly display the Trueno Edition badge. The Trueno Edition also features black metallic finished 18-inch alloy wheels, exclusive to this edition, along with black door handles and mirror caps.
Inside the special edition, the red leather-trimmed sport seats, red-stitched shift boot and steering wheel create a striking contrast. The 8-inch touchscreen display supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, while audio is channelled via an eight-speaker system.
Powertrain remains as before, with a 2.4-litre boxer engine (FA24) that makes 231 PS/250 Nm (for the US market, our Malaysian-spec GR86 is rated at 237 PS), mated to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the Trueno Edition, the 2024 model year introduces the GR86 Performance Package. This package, standard on the Trueno Edition, includes ZF Sachs Dampers and Brembo Brakes, enhancing suspension and braking performance.
The Sachs dampers are filled with high pressure nitrogen and oil, which are said to absorb vibrations across a wide range of speeds, maximize ground contact, and support firm, stable steering, while also balancing road feedback and ride comfort.
The red-painted Brembo 4-piston front and 2-piston rear brake callipers clamp down on smooth-surfaced 325 x 33 mm front rotors, with 315 x 20 mm rotors in the rear.
Customers in the US purchasing new 2024 GR86 models can opt for the Performance Package, while owners of 2022 or 2023 GR86 models (with 18-inch wheels) can retrofit their vehicles with this package.
For manual transmission models, a new Active Safety Suite of ADAS is available, utilising a stereo camera to monitor the road ahead. This suite includes features such as Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Sway Warning, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, and High Beam Assist.

Previously exclusive to automatic transmission models, the addition of the ADAS complements Toyota's Star Safety System, which includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), ABS, and others.
The 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition will have limited availability in the upcoming winter season (Q4 2023/Q1 2024) for the US market.
