The 2021 Toyota GR 86 is here to rage your dreams 01

After some rumours of a delay (ultimately unfounded), the much-anticipated Toyota GR 86 is finally here. The GR 86 will be the third model in Toyota's motorsport-inspired GR (short for Gazoo Racing) series of sports cars, following in the steps of the GR Supra and GR YarisGR Yaris. As before, the GR 86 is developed and manufactured in partnership with Subaru, who will continue making the identical BRZ model.

Staying true to the original format, the GR 86 utilises a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. Powering the all-new model is a 2.4-litre flat four engine (235 PS, 250 Nm), paired to either a 6-speed manual, or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Automatic models also get Subaru's EyeSight ADAS system.

Inside, the layout remains a very driver-centric place. In front of the driver now sits a 7-inch, fully-digital instrument panel, with animations that pay homage to its horizontally-opposed engine. In any case, there's little to doubt that this car will have a peerless driving position and ergonomics.

Whatever it is, its just great to see Toyota and Subaru keeping the faith to continue making sports cars like these. Sports cars that they don't have to make, but choose to do so anyway. All I know is, I can't wait to get behind the wheel of one. Thank you, Toyota and Subaru.
