Porsche Malaysia has launched it’s all-electric four-seater car, the Porsche Taycan, in Malaysia. Three variants (Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo, and Taycan Turbo S) are now available for the keen early adopters of electric vehicles who also want a Porsche.

There are two battery sizes for the Taycan. The 4S gets the 79.2 kWh battery with about 407 km of range. The Turbo and Turbo S get 93.4 kWh batteries capable of up to 450 km of range (Taycan Turbo) and 412 km of range (Taycan Turbo S).

The 4S has the optional Performance Battery Plus (upgrade from 79.2 kWh to 93.4 kWh), should you desire more electric driving range.

The top spec Taycan, the Taycan Turbo S, has a maximum power output of 761 PS and a maximum torque of 1050 Nm (with overboost and launch control). Weighing more than 2,000 kilograms, the Turbo S does 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds only. 0-200 km/h is schieved in 9.8 seconds.

The Porsche Taycan reports performance figures as such:

Taycan 4S – 530 PS/640 Nm (0-100 km/h – 4.0 s)

Taycan Turbo – 680 PS/850 Nm (0-100 km/h – 3.2 s)

Taycan Turbo S – 761 PS/1050 Nm (0-100 km/h – 2.8 s)

Prices of the Taycan are as such (without SST):

Taycan 4S - RM725,000

Taycan Turbo - RM 999,000

Taycan Turbo S - RM 1,195,000

With a price tag of RM 1.195 mil, the Taycan Turbo S is the most expensive electric car you could buy in Malaysia. The good thing is the Taycan has an official price list, making it easier to finance.

The Taycan is already well known for its high speed 270 kW DC Fast Charging (The Taycan 4S only gets 225 kW DCFC). For AC charging, the Taycan is rated at 11 kW.

DC charging (with max kW) takes only 25 minutes to 80%. With a 50 kW DC charger, the Taycan can charge to 80% in about 1.5 hours.

AC charging to 100% will take up to 9 hours. Note that the Taycan is equipped with a 93.4 kWh (Turbo S and Turbo) or 79.2 kWh battery (4S).

Accompanying the Taycan in Malaysia is a 175 kW DC Fast Charger that is installed at Porsche Ara Damansara. That is now the fastest DC charger in Malaysia exclusive to Porsche owners only. Other 175 kW DC chargers are located in Porsche Penang and Porsche Sungai Besi.

Built on the J1 platform, the Porsche Taycan is slightly smaller than the Porsche Panamera.

The J1 platform is shared with the Audi e-tron GT. Another electric car that has been launched in Malaysia is the Mini Cooper SE.

The Porsche Taycan is one of the most advanced electric cars out there, and the Taycan’s strength is probably in the battery thermal management and its DC fast charging.

The next electric Porsche will be the Porsche Macan but we have no idea when that would reach Malaysia.

If you’re worried that Porsche might ditch the flat-6 engine, be assured that Porsche will continue to make “highly emotional” ICE cars (especially the Porsche 911) alongside its hybrid and electric line-up in the future.
