The second model under Mazda’s Large Product Group category, the Mazda CX-90 made its Southeast Asian debut in the Philippines just like its sibling, the Mazda CX-60. Not only is it the largest Mazda SUV on sale, but the CX-90 is also the most expensive Mazda model in the country.

Imported from Japan (CBU), two variants are offered for the Filipino-spec CX-90:

• 3.3L AWD HEV Turbo – PHP 3.68 million (~RM 303k)
• 3.3L AWD HEV Turbo Exclusive – PHP 3.78 million (~RM 312k)

At that price, Mazda is pitting the CX-90 against other luxurious SUVs like the BMW X3 which starts from PHP 3.89 million (~RM 321k) and the Mercedes-Benz GLB which starts from PHP 4.09 million (~RM 337k).

Powering the two PH-spec CX-90 variants is the e-Skyactiv G mild-hybrid powertrain that combines the 3.3-litre inline-6 turbocharged unit (284 PS/450 Nm) with a 48V integrated electric starter generator.

The powerplant is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission that delivers power to all 4 wheels (AWD). This combination is also seen on the CX-60 but what differs between the two large SUVs is the CX-90 offers a 3-row seating arrangement.

The entry variant of the CX-90 has seating for up to 8 adults in a 2+3+3 configuration while the Exclusive variant offers a 6-seater layout with a pair of seats in each row. Entry to the third row is made easy with Mazda designing the rear doors larger for a more comfortable ingress and egress.

Though the CX-90 is a deluxe-looking SUV that prioritises elegance, it still has that Mazda driving DNA embedded with Kinematic Posture Control (KPC). This feature suppresses body roll when cornering to provide all occupants with an enhanced feeling of grip and stability.

Speaking of elegance, the CX-90’s interior is covered with soft-touch materials on the dashboard, Nappa leather upholstery as well as Leganu suede inserts. Ventilated seats are available on the front seats as well as the second row, the latter only on the Exclusive variant.

It also features 3 high-definition displays – a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, another 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.4-inch heads-up display.

Other cabin amenities include a 12-speaker Bose sound system, tri-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and USB-C charging ports for the rear two rows.

Both variants of the CX-90 in the Philippines come standard with Mazda’s i-Activesense ADAS suite which includes:

• Front and Rear Smart Brake Support
• Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Cruising and Traffic Support
• Adaptive LED Headlamps
• Lane Departure Warning
• Lane Keep Assist
• Blind Spot Monitoring with vehicle exit warning
• Front and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Brake Support

For now, the CX-90 is offered in left-hand drive (LHD) markets but it is listed on Mazda Australia's website hinting that it will be offered in right-hand drive (RHD). Its 2-row sibling, the CX-60 was hinted by Bermaz to be launched here so it might be plausible for the CX-90 to also make its Malaysian arrival in due time.
