Alongside a few other models including the updated G05 BMW X5, BMW Thailand also launched the BMW M760e xDrive, the first-ever M Performance car with a plug-in hybrid drive system - the BMW XM, on the other hand, is a core M model.

This is the second G70 7 Series variant offered in the Kingdom after the 750e xDrive M Sport.

Priced from THB 7,299,000 (~RM 966,000), the M760e is powered by a combination of a twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-6 petrol engine that makes 381 PS/520 Nm with an electric motor that produces 197 PS/280 Nm. Combined, the plug-in hybrid powertrain ekes out 420 PS and 800 Nm and 0-100 km/h is completed in 4.3 seconds.

Power is sent to all 4 wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. What’s interesting about this gearbox is the compact transmission pre-gearing stage which is used to increase the torque produced by the electric motor by up to 450 Nm for a more authoritative electric power.

The palatial-looking M760e has a 22.1-kWh lithium-ion high-voltage battery and has an electric driving range of 85 km in the NEDC cycle.

But opulence is the main aim of BMW’s flagship saloon with crystal headlights made with Swarovski crystals to create what the Bimmer press release calls ‘luxurious light effects’. Standard on the Thai-spec M760e are 21-inch BMW Individual aerodynamic wheels, an M rear spoiler, and the M Performance Package.

Inside, the M760e is equipped with the BMW Interaction Bar that combines function control, ambient lighting, and the ability to adjust decorative appearance as desired. It also offers a massage function and active seat ventilation for the front and rear seats as well as a 4-zone automatic air-conditioning.

Included on this performance luxury land barge is the BMW Theatre Screen which consists of a 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen display with Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, built-in touch remotes in the door panels, and an automated rear shade system that closes when the BMW Theatre Screen is turned on.

In Malaysia, the G70 7 Series is locally assembled (CKD) in Kulim with two variants offered:

• 750e xDrive Pure Excellence - RM 649,800
• 750e xDrive M Sport - RM 700,000 (est)
