Malaysian airlines AirAsia has revealed its plans to diversify into ride-hailing in Malaysia. Its Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has teased a picture of AirAsia's plans via his social media accounts.

In the teaser picture above, it would seem that AirAsia's ride-hailing fleet will comprise of the Toyota Vellfire and Toyota Alphard. Fernandes promises that AirAsia's entry into the ride-hailing scene will be "different from Grab and Uber. Different culture, different cabin and more."

Fernandes continued, "If you think about it, we’ve always been a delivery company, delivering (by plane) people to destinations the world over, now delivering food, packages, fintech products and even online education. Now hitting the road." Well, he's not wrong.

How different will his business model be from the aforementioned companies? Only time will tell. Nonetheless, it's refreshing to see another potentially prominent player in Malaysia's ride-hailing sector, which - since the departure of Uber - has been increasingly dominated by Grab.
