Basic information about my car:

2022 Proton Iriz 1.3 Standard

Reasons why I bought this car:

First and foremost, I was in need of a car ASAP. The car will be my daily, weekend, everyday car. I need a car that can handle my harsh driving (sometimes). Adequate power is enough since my budget is not that much.

Car selection process
- Our budget is RM 43,000.

- Models that I have considered include: Proton Saga Premium AT or FL Perodua Myvi 1.3 Standard

Reasons why I chose this car:

As what I stated, need a car ASAP. Went to Perodua and Proton back and forth to compare the waiting time. Was told by several Perodua sales persons that the Axia and Myvi would take me 4-6 months of waiting time. As for the Saga it was around 3-4 months and Iriz 1-3 month waiting period. So i ended up choosing the Iriz above all. I have driven the Saga, Axia and Myvi (pre fl) but never the Iriz. Yes, bought it without test drive the car first. Any regrets? do continue the reading.

User experience：
- I have already done: 11000km.

- My average fuel consumption is 5.5-7.0L/km.

Let me seperate this into several parts, that are driving,quality, and overall.

Driving Performance - The power is adequate for a 1.3L car. Low speed acceleration is good enough with the newly added "SAT" function (I know they had this before with Saga flx but still, new in Iriz la) with the CVT on both 2022 Persona & Iriz. During high speed >130km/h, you can feel the engine is struggle to accelerate. But hey,do you drive that fast everyday?

"S" mode is not a gimmick here honestly, it holds the gear ratio longer and I can feel the car is "lighter" compared to normal mode. It is easier to reach the top speed of the Iriz (160-170km/h) with the S mode. Don't kecam me hehe.

Driving Dynamics - Here I'll tell you how well the car handles the corner. Wait.. do I need to? it's a Proton after all. Okay joke aside, it does takes corner very well even with the stock Atlas AS380 tyres. Suprisingly handles well too in wet. Genting, Batang Kali, drove there with smile on every corner. Never hesitate to drive slightly faster with the Iriz on twisty roads.

Now we talk about the weakest point of Proton, quality. And me myself can't run from factory defects. I had some factory defects such as car does not detect when the hood is open (can be locked with hood open), the LED digital A/C panel does flickering when the temperature at level 5, driver side absorber making weird sound everytime I pass through bumps. Worry free, all claimed under warranty.

Overall - Satisfied with the money thrown for the car. It's not a 200k car anyway. It exceeds my expectation for a 40+k car.

Pros of my car:

1. 4 Airbags for standard variant

2. Great factory fitted speakers

3. Interior does not look like a standard spec car

4. Semi bucket seats are lovely

Cons of my car:

1. Some factory defects.

2. Only 2 speakers, though given good ones.

3. No keyless entry & push start.

4. No spoiler as standard, looks hideous.

Summary：

In a nutshell, I have no regrets buying the 2022 Iriz. It checks all my need for a daily car. Since FC and resale are not my concern, Iriz is the perfect car for me and my driving style.

Interesting event(s):

A few actually, but I'll share one or two. On the day I pick up the car, I straight up went to genting hours later. Slowly? nope. I don't even bother to 'break in" the car.

Since I use the car for work travel sometimes, I had few "events" with the car on highways. One of them was having my CVT overheat light lit up. Ok hear me out, I was travelling KL - Kuantan, Kuantan - KL in a day, car did not have proper cool down time. I was cruising back Kuantan - KL at 150km/h - 170km/h when the light lit up. Scared ? honestly abit since Proton CVTs are prone to fail. Slowed down to 100 km/h for few mins and gain the speed back when the light turned off. Never lit up again ever since.
