Making its official appearance in the ASEAN region, the Suzuki Jimny 5-door has been previewed at the ongoing Singapore Motor Show 2024.

The Jimny 5-door is produced at Maruti Suzuki’s plant in Gurugram, both for local and export markets. India was also the first market to receive the Jimny 5-door, which is priced between INR 10.74 lakh (~ RM 60k) and INR 14.05 lakh (RM 79k).

As its name suggests, Suzuki has given the longer Jimny the same treatment as a 5-door MINI in that the overall design is kept, apart from adding two more doors and redesigned rear quarters. So, it gets the same boxy but rugged looks but with the convenience of carrying 5 passengers in decent comfort.

Measuring 3,985 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,590 mm, the Jimny 5-door is 505 mm longer than the 3-door in length and 340 mm longer in wheelbase. However, width and height remain unchanged at 1,645 mm and 1,720 mm respectively.

Also unchanged in the Jimny 5-door is interior architecture, which is similar to the 3-door, besides the two extra doors, it carries over the hard plastic dashboard, analogue dials and other bits such as the climate control and interior switches.  

The rear seats feature a bench-type layout with 50/50 split-folding backrests to create more cargo room. 

The only engine offered is the 1.5-litre K15B 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 105 PS and 132 Nm. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. In this case, the preview unit features the automatic 4-speeder.

Four-wheel drive (4WD) is available via Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system across the range.

There is no ADAS offered for the Jimny 5-door (in India) but it does come with 6 airbags, ESP with hill hold assist, hill descent control, rear-view camera and ABS with EBD.

The preview in Singapore could hint at a possible launch soon, although curiously, the preview is a left-hand drive unit.

It remains to be seen if the Jimny 5-door will be offered in Malaysia, currently, the Jimny 3-door is priced from RM 174,900.
