4 racing classes and the possibility of 4 new champions. That’s the kind of racing the Vios Challenge delivers as part of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival and the season finale of Season 6 promises that and more this 30 September – 1 October 2023 weekend.

Once again, Round 3 that’s also the final round of the season, will go down at the Sepang International Circuit. Admission is free for everyone, and the 2-day festival promises an exciting weekend of activities and attractions both on and off the racing track.

There will be concert performances; meet and greet sessions with the TGR celebrities; Tempatan Fest featuring booths for food, vintage accessories, street wear and art.

Day 1 will include artistes such as:

• Hip-Hop singer KMY KMO
• Local rapper Luca Sickta
• Malaysian Pop and Alternative Rock group OAG

Day 2 meanwhile will comprise performances by:

• Indonesian Alternative Rock band Iqbal M
• 16 Baris featuring Joe Flizzow, MK, SonaOne, ALYPH, AbangSapau, Killa Driz, Sophia Liana, Gard, Pele, Fuego & DJ CZA

“In 6 seasons of racing, a total of more than 18 million spectators (on ground) and online viewers have tuned into the Toyota GAZOO Racing Festival and GR Vios Challenge racing series, firmly establishing it as the premier one-make saloon car racing series in Malaysia,” said UMW Toyota Motor President, Datuk Ravindran K.

As Season 6 comes to a close, it’ll also be setting the stage for Season 7 as fans will be able to catch the all-new fourth generation and race-ready Toyota Vios. The cars will make their racing debut by the 9 celebrity racers in the Promotional Class before going on to being used in all categories in Season 7 of the GR Vios Challenge in 2024.

Based on the AC100 Vios, it’ll continue to be powered by a 1.5-litre engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission but sports a more rigid and stable all-new platform as well as revised aerodynamics. These chassis enhancements make it more planted in corners, more responsive to driver input and capable of even faster lap times.

As excited as the drivers are to get behind the wheel of the new racecar, all 45 of them still have unfinished business on track.

In the Super Sporting Class for elite drivers, the battle for the championship after two rounds is currently in favour of Prima Pearl TD Racing’s Mitchell Cheah and Laser Motor Racing’s Putera Adam, who currently occupy the top two spots. Cheah, at 59 points, has a slim 5-point advantage over Putera.

The Sporting Class for amateur drivers meanwhile, sees Axle Sports driver Nabil Azlan also with a slim 5-point advantage over his nearest rival Bradley Benedict Anthony. Nabil has a total of 68 points with Bradley on 63.

Over in the Rookie Class meanwhile, it’s boiling down between Iman Danish who has 59 points, and Elson Lew on 52 points.

In the Promotional Class, Zizan Razak has a huge 17-point lead on 70 points and is the favourite to take the title. His closest rival is Ezzrin Loy with 55 points, and in third spot is Shukri Yahaya who has 54 points. Nonetheless, Ezzrin has proven to be the most consistent driver this season with four consecutive podium finishes to place him in contention as a dark horse for the overall title.
