The 2023 Proton X50 R3 Concept has been unveiled to the public at the ongoing Malaysia Autoshow 2023 at MAEPS Serdang. Limited to 200 units only, the hotted-up model is only exclusively bookable through said Autoshow, it's not available in conventional showrooms.

Built to commemorate the R3 brand's 20th anniversary, the X50 R3 Concept, based on the X50 Flagship, is fitted with a special aerokit, encapsulating a chin spoiler, extended side skirts and rear diffuser, as well as a roof spoiler in carbon finish that looks akin to what's on the Geely Binyue Cool.

An R3 badge on the grille adds to the look, while the P R O T O N script has been removed from the tailgate; in place is a simple, gloss black trim piece. An R3 bonnet stripe, R3 number plate holders, and 18-inch flow-formed wheels complete the exterior.

It's also finished in an exclusive matte black colour, with all the aforementioned items finished in yellow for the typical R3 look.

Inside, the X50 R3 Concept gets special R3-branded seats, an interior name plate, and customised 3D floormats. The rest of it however remains as it is on the regular X50 Flagship.

Powertrain changes aren't outlined, so it's more than likely to just keep the stock X50 Flagship's 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged TGDi engine, outputing 177 PS and 255 Nm of torque. Transmission is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).

This, however, is still a concept - so some specifications could change, either more or less. Bookings fees are RM 599 a pop and can only be made at the event; deliveries are scheduled to take place beginning October 2023.

The Proton X50 range in Malaysia is priced from RM 86,300 (1.5 Standard) to RM 113,300 (1.5 Flagship).
