It has been roughly 2 weeks since Nissan launched the all-new 2023 Nissan X-Trail (T33) in Japan and the model is off to a good start as roughly 12,000 people have booked one.
According to BestCarWeb, demand for the T33 X-Trail has been overwhelmingly positive, so much so that it’s the fastest selling generation to-date, beating out the T32, T31, and T30 generation models.
It was launched in Japan in late July and within 2 weeks, 12,123 ordered were received. Over in the Land of the Rising Sun, the T33 X-Trail is only offered with the e-Power series-hybrid powertrain and VC-Turbo engine.

At the heart of the T33 X-Trail is a turbocharged 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, codenamed KR15DDT. This engine is good for 144 PS at 4,400 rpm to 5,000 rpm and 250 Nm from 2,400 rpm to 5,000 rpm. The engine is hooked up to a BM46 electric motor that does 204 PS and 330 Nm.

Being a series-hybrid, the electric motor is the one that drives the wheels; the petrol engine is used to solely charge the high-voltage battery.
Nissan offers the T33 X-Trail either as a front-wheel drive model, or an all-wheel drive one. The latter features Nissan’s e-4ORCE electric all-wheel drive technology.
Prices in Japan start from JPY 3,198,000 (~RM 101k) for the entry-level S variant, before topping out at JPY 4,846,600 (~RM 154k) for the top-spec Autech Advance Package variant.

What about Malaysia?
The big question remains: will Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) offer the all-new Nissan X-Trail in Malaysia? Historically, ETCM has been offering the X-Trail generation since the very beginning, and has been a household name here in Malaysia.
That said, if and when the T33 X-Trail lands in Malaysia, prices won’t be as cheap as before, as the T33 X-Trail in Japan carries with it a 15 percent price premium over the predecessor model.
For reference, the current T32 X-Trail is priced between RM 136,888 to RM 159,888.
