Plenty is happening within Malaysia's trademark office, and this time another new model is clued in – we've found trademarks filed for a certain Toyota Yaris Cross.
Filed by Toyota Motor Corporation themselves late last year, the mark was registered in Class 12, encapsulating 'Automobiles and structural parts thereof.'

Although not all trademarks come to eventual fruition, this one for the Yaris Cross is a little more grounded in reality as this refers to the ASEAN-spec model that made its debut in May 2023.
It's in the middle of its regional tour, with the small-ish SUV (about the size of a HR-V) having launched in Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia, while it's also earmarked to appear in Malaysia.

There's very likely to be a rebadged version by Perodua as well – for now, it's codenamed 'D66B', though the name 'Perodua Nexis' has also been bandied about and trademarked.
Specs of Toyota Yaris Cross
The Toyota Yaris Cross sold in our neck of the woods is different from the Japanese and European market ones. Being localised, ours sit on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, and its available with a wide range of both hybrids and non-electrified powertrain options.
Depending on market, choices of powertrain include a 1.5-litre petrol powerplant that makes 106 PS and 138 Nm, or a 1.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid system that combines a 91 PS/121 Nm 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 2NR-VEX four-cylinder engine with a 80 PS/121 Nm electric motor.

Creature comforts are par for the course (think available leather seats, digital instrument cluster, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connection), though higher-end variants come with Toyota Safety Sense ADAS as well.
