While ministers and bosses in Malaysia await the official arrival of the all-new 2023 Toyota Alphard (AH40), the luxury mobile breadbox was launched in our neighbours, Thailand and Indonesia.
Over in the archipelago, the all-new Alphard is offered in 3 variants β the petrol-powered X and G as well as a single Hybrid variant which are priced between IDR 1.356 billion to IDR 1.657 billion (~RM 412k-503k).
Despite being the most expensive variant offered, the Alphard Hybrid is also the most popular choice among Indonesians following its launch at the recently concluded 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) revealed to Otodriver that 382 orders have been placed for the Alphard and 80% of those orders were for the hybrid variant. β305 units were for the hybrid while the remainder 77 units were for the petrol variants,β TAMβs Head of Public Relations, Dimas Aska informed the Indonesian automotive publication.
Both the petrol and hybrid variants are powered by 2.5-litre units. The petrol variants are powered by a naturally aspirated (NA) 2AR-FE Dual VVT-i engine that makes 182 PS and 235 Nm with power sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed CVT.
The Alphard Hybrid, on the other hand, is powered by the A25-FXS hybrid powertrain that produces a combined 250 PS. Power is sent to all four wheels (e-Four 4WD system) via an e-CVT gearbox.
As for the Vellfire, TAM is still offering the outgoing AH30 generation on its website though it is still not certain whether the all-new generation will be brought over to the archipelago.
Back in Malaysia, UMW Toyota Motor announced bookings for the all-new Alphard and Vellfire are open. No hybrid variants are announced but the Malaysian-spec Alphard will be powered by a turbocharged 2.4-litre inline-4 (278 PS/430 Nm) and the Vellfire will be powered by the same 2.5-litre NA as the Indo-spec Alphard.
Prices are estimated to start from RM 438,000 for the Vellfire and RM 538,000 for the Alphard.
