Bangladesh is the fourth export market for Proton’s flagship SUV model, the Proton X90. Launched under new partner Rancon Holdings Limited, the X90 is offered in the country with two variants – the 7-seater Premium and 6-seater Flagship.
25 units have already been registered in less than two weeks following its unveiling on 29 February 2024. Prices for the Premium start from BDT 4.59 million (~RM 199k) while the Flagship is priced from BDT 4.99 million (~RM 217k).
In a press statement, Proton announced that local assembly (CKD) operations for the X90 will begin later in the year together with its new Bangladeshi partner. Rancon has already invested USD 100 million (RM 454 million) within its industrial park in the country.
Speaking to guests and media during the X90’s launch, Proton CEO, Dr Li Chunrong, said, “Proton is confident Rancon Holdings is the perfect partner for Proton to be successful in Bangladesh. They are already establishing a sales and after-sales network and will invest in a manufacturing line to locally assemble Proton vehicles in the future.”
“With more offerings in the pipeline, as well as our commitment to support all facets of the partnership, we aim to be the top-3 brand in Bangladesh within three years,” he continued.
Currently, Rancon has Proton dealers located in two cities, the capital Dhaka and Chattogram.
“To ensure product quality in export markets that have local assembly are the same as the vehicles built in Malaysia, Proton is leaning on its experience of using the Volvo Global Quality Standard, which has been instrumental in improving the quality of our products. We know there is a lot of hard work ahead of us to reach this level and for this partnership to meet its goals, but we are confident that together with our partner, the Proton brand can be a major fixture in Bangladesh,” added Dr Li Chunrong.
Proton was previously distributed in Bangladesh under PHP Automobiles Limited. It assembled the Proton Saga, Proton X70, and Proton Persona at its Chittagong plant.
As for the Bangladeshi-spec X90, it offers the same kit and features as the ones offered here. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre 3-pot unit with a 48V mild-hybrid system (190 PS/300 Nm) and is equipped with leather seats, a 10.25-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit.
Outside of Malaysia and Bangladesh, the Proton X90 is also available in South Africa, Brunei, and Mauritius. Prices and variants of the X90 here are listed below:
