Akio Toyoda wants you to know just how different the 2023 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire AH40 are between each other, despite them being developed on the same platform.

Nonetheless, the approach in design and engineering for the duo couldn’t be more different, and their chief engineer regards these latest models as the greatest ever.

An easy way to sum up the approach is the brief given, “One a pleasure to ride, the other a joy to drive.”

That led to the strikingly different character infused during the development process.

To detail the differences between the luxo-barges, former journalist and now a media figure for Toyota, Yuta Tomikawa and the Toyota Times Global team experienced the MPVs together with Simon Humphries, Toyota’s Chief Branding Officer and Senior General Manager of Design.

Humphries is the man behind some of Toyota’s most iconic designs in recent times, including the new Land Cruiser. He even takes the time to share his design vision, which extends far beyond the Alphard and Vellfire.

Both of them take the time to enjoy the MPVs as Tomikawa experiences the pleasure of riding in the new Alphard with its relaxing and invigorating interior design while gets thrilled with the joy of driving in the Vellfire.
