We know we previously associated that the large 7-seater Geely Haoyue launched in June is likely the Proton X90. But with Geely’s plans to design future Proton cars on the CMA platform, we speculate that this SUV built on the CMA platform spied in China has a higher chance of becoming the Proton X90, if it ever comes to Malaysia that is.
Codenamed the KX11, the heavily camouflaged SUV spied in the photos clearly advertises the fact that it was built on the Volvo-Geely Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. It will probably fit into the D-segment SUV segment alongside SUVs like the Toyota Highlander (not sold in Malaysia).

It measures in at 4,810 x 1,875 x 1,742 mm in length, width, and height. This makes it slightly shorter and narrower than the Geely Haoyue by just 25 mm. Meanwhile, the KX11 is almost 300 mm longer and 44 mm wider than the Geely Boyue, or better known to us as the Proton X70.
In terms of wheelbase, the KX11 measures in at 2,805 mm which is just 10 mm shorter than the Haoyue and 135 mm longer than the Geely Boyue.
For better context, compared next to its cousins the Volvo XC90 and Volvo XC60, the KX11’s size falls between the two luxury SUVs. Meanwhile, it is almost 300 mm longer and 25 mm wider than the C-segment Honda CR-V.
Chinese media is predicting that the KX11 will be powered by Geely’s 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine similar to the Geely Binyue (Proton X50) or the brand’s Drive-E 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
Based on the prices on Geely’s current model line-up, the 1.5T will probably be priced between CNY 130 - 150k (RM 79k – RM 91k) and the 2.0T engine will be sold around CNY 140 - 190k (RM 85k – RM 122k).
If you’re wondering why is Geely building yet another large SUV when they already have the similarly sized Haoyue, the KX11 is predicted to be the more elegant and luxurious SUV between the two.
The KX11 has already been slotted for a launch at the upcoming 2020 Beijing Motor Show happening on the 26th of September 2020 onwards.
