Almost two months since it was first seen, the updated 2022 Proton Saga has been spotted again, courtesy of our friends over at Funtasticko.
While the earlier spyshot gave us a glimpse of the new Saga’s front-end and its circular Proton emblem, we now have a better look at the A-segment sedan’s side profile.
As speculated earlier, it certainly looks like the updated Saga will be getting new aero-inspired alloy wheels, replacing the current Saga 1.3 Premium’s twin five-spoke unit.
But that’s not all – sources also indicated to Funtasticko that the updated Saga could be fitted with a downsized 1,299-cc engine, replacing the long-serving 1,332-cc unit. This engine was first fitted to the Pakistani-spec Saga, in order for the Saga to gain tax incentives as the tax structure for 1,300 cc and above cars is different.
Despite being 34-cc less, power output of the smaller engine remains unchanged: 95 PS at 5,750 rpm and 120 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
The Hyundai-sourced 4-speed torque converter automatic should remain unchanged. It replaced the dreaded Punch-sourced CVT when Proton updated the Saga back in 2019.
