The DNGA-based Toyota Yaris Cross is offered in 6 variants in Indonesia - 4 petrol variants and 2 hybrid variants. Despite being the most expensive choice of the Yaris Cross, the hybrid is also the most highly sought-after choice among buyers in the archipelago.
In an interview with AutoFun ID, Anton Jimmi Suwandy, Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) revealed that up to 78% of orders for the Yaris Cross have been for the hybrid variants.

However, this only accounts for sales in Western Indonesia as TAM has yet to fully distribute the SUV in the eastern part of the archipelago. Even accounting for the distribution in the east, Anton estimated that the hybrid variants would still be more popular than the petrol variants.
Anton also explained that Toyota is more prepared in terms of production after learning some lessons with the Innova Zenix when demand for the hybrid variants exceeded expectations. In light of that, the production of hybrid vehicles at the Karawang plant has been boosted compared to petrol-powered variants.

“Compared to the Innova Zenix, we are more prepared in terms of production components for the Yaris Cross,” he told AutoFun ID. “Since production began in June, we have been very much committed to hybrid production.”

With that preparation, Toyota is also reducing wait time for the hybrid variants of the Yaris Cross. Early during the Innova Zenix’s launch, those looking to get the hybrid variants would have to wait up to a year for deliveries.
To recap, the Yaris Cross in Indonesia is offered with a choice of a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre 2NR-VE (106 PS/138 Nm) or a 1.5-litre 2NR-VEX hybrid unit that combines a 1.5-litre NA engine (91 PS/121 Nm) with an electric motor (90 PS/141 Nm).

With Indonesia as its base of production, the Yaris Cross is expected to be exported to 25 destinations and Thailand might be the first export market. The Yaris Cross would make its way into Malaysia as a Perodua with the rumoured D66B SUV expected to be launched within the next 2 years.
