We appreciate the positive reception from the market and our customers, acknowledging our diverse model range and forward-thinking approaches. As we continue to set new benchmarks, our focus remains on providing meaningful and innovative mobility.”

Elsewhere, Toyota emerged as the market leader in the pick-up truck segment - delivering a whopping 27,447 Toyota Hilux units in 2023. In the panel van segment, the Toyota Hiace dominated 100 percent of the non-national market share delivering all of the 3,424 registered vehicles in 2023.

Though the company did not provide model-specific sales numbers by models we can assume the rest of its sales - amounting to 54,703 units - were split between the sedan, hatchback, MPV and GR Performance models. These include popular models such as the Vios, Yaris, Camry, Veloz, InnovaAlphard and Vellfire models.

Meanwhile, Honda sold over 80,000 units in Malaysia in 2023 which should place it behind Toyota. However, if you exclude the Hilux and the Hiace (totalling 30,871 units) from Toyota’s numbers, Honda still retains its top spot in the non-national passenger car category.

The company also expanded its footprint with the addition of the new 3S outlet in Nibong Tebal recently, aimed at enhancing customer service and accessibility in the region,

Toyota is also poised to unveil its next initiative in the coming weeks; in introducing its Beyond Zero event. The event marks Toyota's resolute commitment to the journey towards carbon neutrality by 2050. During this event, UMWT will showcase its multi-pathway mobility solutions catering to diverse needs and usages, aligning with Malaysia’s vision for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
