When the updated locally assembled (CKD) Proton X70 was launched in June 2022, introducing a new 1.5-litre 3-cylinder GEP3 turbocharged engine to complement the existing 1.8-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit, only the 1.8 TGDi Premium variant has a panoramic sunroof.

Now, Proton has updated the X70 range to include a new 1.5 TGDi Premium X variant. This brings the total X70 variants to six.

The 1.5 TGDi Premium X variant sits between the 1.5 TGDi Premium and 1.8 TGDi Premium variants.

As a recap, there are only two differences between the 1.5 TGDi and 1.8 TGDi Premium variants – engine type (new 1.5L 3-cylinder vs old 1.8L 4-cylinder) and panoramic sunroof (on the 1.8 TGDi Premium).

The new 1.5 TGDi Premium X variant basically offers the benefit of the panoramic sunroof to customers who prefer the newer, more fuel-efficient GEP3 engine.

The 1.5 TGDi Premium X variant is also offered in an exclusive Quartz Black colour. Other available colours (for Premium X) are Space Grey and Snow White.

The new 1.5 TGDi Premium X variant is priced at RM 126,800, on-the-road without insurance, for private registration in Peninsular Malaysia.
