Ever since the Japanese conglomerate, Sojitz Corporation started becoming Geely’s Filipino distributor and establishing Sojitz G Auto Philippines Corporation (SGAP) in 2019, sales for the Chinese brand have been going upwards.
According to the Filipino automotive media, AutoIndustriya, Geely has sold 2,426 units in the first half of 2021 (January – June). Those figures are more than quadruple of the sales from the same period in 2020 (549 units) and represent a growth of 342%.

Leading the way is the Geely Coolray, the Proton X50’s twin, with 1,312 units sold. It looks like the hypebeast crossover continues its trend among Filipino buyers as the Coolray is the country’s best-selling B-segment SUV, representing a 153% growth over the same period in 2020.

Even with the ongoing threat of the pandemic and more competition in the Coolray’s category, SGAP is still confident in reaching its target for 2021. Geely’s success in a market that still has some doubts on cars coming from China is something surprising and unexpected.
Despite only having 3 models in its line-up, these sales allowed Geely to enter the country’s top 10 best-selling cars in the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc.’s (CAMPI) monthly report.
