The first units of the ninth-generation 2024 Toyota Camry have started rolling off the production lines at Toyota USA's longest-running manufacturing plant in Kentucky.
The new 2024 Toyota Camry made its debut last month and highlights a hybrid-only range that is powered by the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5) that's mated to a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine. Front-wheel drive versions make a combined 225 PS.
For the first time on a Camry Hybrid, there's also the optional Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) for all variants. This adds a rear motor, and bumps total power output to 232 PS, 30 PS more than what the outgoing model has.
All hybrid variants feature a lithium-ion traction battery and an e-CVT transmission. Toyota claims that the 2024 Camry returns fuel-efficiency figures of 43- to 51 MPG, or roughly 4.6- to 5.5 litres/100 km.
The new 2024 Camry also benefits from retuned suspension with a focus on responsiveness and agility, and all models, like before, maintain its multi-link rear suspension setup. The US-market SE and XSE grades also get sports shock absorbers all around, and a larger diameter stabiliser bar up front.
A newly-developed braking system (comprising of a new pump motor) complements the on-road capabilities, and drivers can choose between Normal, Eco, and Sport driving modes too.
On the inside, the 2024 Camry features an all-new dashboard layout which features its two big digital displays. It is equipped with a standard 7-inch digital gauge cluster, with up to a 12.3-inch infotainment display for higher trims.
The infotainment system also offers a 12.3-inch screen with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Enhancements extend to Toyota Drive Connect, featuring voice-controlled assistance and over-the-air updates.
In terms of looks, the 2024 Camry takes inspiration from recent models like the Toyota Crown and Prius – and benefits from sleek LED head- and taillights all around. For the US market, the 2024 Camry is offered with a salvo of factory customisation options across 4 main variants starting from USD 24,800 (~RM 118k) to the range-topping XSE at USD 34,600 (~RM 166k).
On the safety front, the Camry comes with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0, which includes:
Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
Lane Tracing Assist
Road Sign Assist
Automatic High Beams
Proactive Driving Assist braking and steering assist
Closer to home, it is unclear for now if the new 2024 Camry will make its way to Malaysia, though Thai automotive source Headlight Mag previously reported that the new model will eventually make its way to Thailand later this year. The automotive outlet even reported that the Thai-spec 2024 Camry could be based on the Chinese-spec model instead.
Since the outgoing Malaysian-spec XV70 Camry is fully imported (CBU) from Thailand, suffice to say that if the new XV80 is launched there, we might get our hands on one not too long after.
The XV70 Camry is available in Malaysia in the sole Camry 2.5V variant which starts from RM 219,800.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
