Toyota Australia is showcasing an innovative fuel cell food truck concept based on the Toyota Hiace called the FCV Express Diner as part of a national Hydrogen Showcase.

With a focus on highlighting the potential applications for hydrogen fuel cell technology across various industries, the FCV Express Diner is a 'one-for-all' example, capable of being used as a simple food truck or even for disaster relief.

Under the skin of a Toyota Hiace is the same hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) powertrain as the Toyota Mirai sedan. Part of this entails two 700 MPa tanks that are capable of storing 5 kilogrammes of hydrogen for a driving range of approximately 400 km.

But beyond driving, the Express Diner bit of its name is another clue: it's equipped with a mobile kitchen at the rear. There's five induction cooktops, an oven, rice cooker, fridge, freezer, and three sinks with hot and cold water - all powered by the onboard fuel cell system.

Not only that, the FCV Express Diner concept is also able to its powertrain to provide electricity for other external power requirements, thereby making it as a mobile generator of sorts.
