While the new GR Sport variant is the attention grabber of the revised 2023 Toyota Corolla sedan’s range, it is the more regular 1.8E and 1.8G variants that will contribute the bulk of the sales.

Seen here is the 1.8G variant. Compared to the previous model, the new 2023 Toyota Corolla has been upgraded with the following features:

• 12.3-inch fully digital instrument panel (1.8G only, 4.2-inch for 1.8E)
• USB Type C port
• Keyless entry for front passenger door
• New mesh grille pattern front bumper made from Toyota Super Olefin Polymer (TSOP) recyclable thermoplastic resin
• New alloy wheels – 16-inch for 1.8E, 17-inch for 1.8G
• Improved, more comfortable front seats (black leather for 1.8G, fabric for 1.8E)
• Upgraded Qi wireless charger – now with clip to secure smartphone (1.8G only)

Powertrain is unchanged. The nothing-fancy-but-bullet-proof reliability 1.8-litre naturally aspirated 2ZR-FE Dual VVT-i engine makes 139 PS / 172 Nm, transferred to the front wheels via a CVT-type automatic transmission.

Suspension remains unchanged, even though some markets have switched to torsion beam. Our local market Corolla continues with MacPherson strut in front and Double Wishbone behind.

For safety, 7 airbags and rear-cross traffic alert (RCTA) is standard.

The 1.8G variant adds the full suite of Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite of advanced driving aids, including Pre-Collision System (PCS), all-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Steering Assist and Lane Trace Assist with Lane Departure Alert (LDA), and Automatic High Beam (AHB.). Also included is Blind Spot Monitor.

As before, the Toyota Corolla is imported from Thailand.

• Corolla 1.8G: RM 147,800 (previously RM 141,888)
